Not much is known about the mysterious leader of Onychinus, and after his long hiatus, even the citizens of the N109 Zone are eager to learn more about him.

Luckily, Sylus has taken a liking to the main character. She’s likely one of the only people in all of Linkon who knows the real Sylus, except his two henchmen Luke and Kieran, but more on them later. Yet, despite the love blossoming between Sylus and the MC, there’s still much to learn.

Hissofter sideonly comes out when interacting with theMC, children, or animals. Sylus has a particular soft spot for strays like hismechanical crow, Mephisto. He even agrees to care for the dove that the MC leaves in his care duringSylus: Nightplumes.

Similar in nature to a crow,Sylus loves shiny things. Fromgems to antiques, guns, and other weaponry, Sylus' collection is filled with glittering goods. It’s a wonder Mephisto hasn’t swooped in and stolen a piece or two!

Work Life

Despite hisyoung age (28), Sylus has made a name for himself in thecriminal underworld of the N109 Zoneand abroad. Sylus began Onychinus bybuying and selling illegal Evol weaponsand Protocores.

While the N109 Zone is aperpetually lawlessplace where even the Hunters Association hesitates to go, there is a ruling body… of sorts.Onychinus has stepped inas the most influential faction in the N109 Zone andwhatever Sylus says, goes.

The brothers are henchmen of a sort but seem tocare deeply about Sylus. Outside of Mephisto, Luke and Kieran are also likely theonly other individualsto know who Sylus really is. They even reveal to the MC thathe does have a heartbeneath his cold exterior.

Sylus' Past, Explained

Not muchis known about Sylus' past, and he’s certainlynot the most forthcomingabout it.

When the MC meets him, he has just returned from along, mysterious hiatus. Not even his organization, Onychinus knew where he was.

While Sylus hasn’t given many clues as to what hispast life and childhoodwere like, a few mentions arise in his Memory Cards andthrough variousevent stories.

In the memory,Sylus: No Way Out, Sylus admits that heplayed with real gunsas a child, rather than toy guns. You canget this and other four-star memoriesfrom the Galaxy Explorer pool.

During their first meeting (inChapter Twoof Long Awaited Revelry, Ambiguous Chaos), Sylus tells the MC that he’ssurprised she doesn’t remember himand that they are “the same”. The MC’s memory gap is a persistent theme throughout the narrative, so it’s possible she and Sylus became acquainted during this time.

Land Of Lost

Most information about Sylus' recent past comesfrom his Anecdote, Land Of Lost. Sylus' Anecdote story explains that he managed toconquer the N109 Zoneafter traveling to Linkon Cityfrom another planet, very likely Philos.

At the end of his Anecdote, Sylus asks a resident what thecurrent fashionis like in the N109 Zone. He then sees a billboard of a man in aleather jacket riding a motorcycle. This is why his leather jacket outfit is called ‘Otherworldly Visitor.’

Sylus is wearing this outfit and riding his motorcycle in one of hisfirst encounters with the MC.

Sylus brought wealthfrom planets and galaxies that he hadpillaged. It’s possible these riches were how hebegan his network of illegal armoriesand other unusual treasures.

In the main story, Sylus also reveals to the MC that he has apowerful Aether Core behind his eyethat allows him tosee a person’s deepest desires. Could this be why he claims he and the MC are the same? Is the only connection between them the presence of modified Aether Cores in their bodies?

The answers to these questions haven’t come up yet, but with thecurrent trajectory of the main storylineand theMC’s search for answersabout her own Aether Core,Sylus' origins will likely be uncoveredin the coming chapters.

The Last Dragon

After much anticipation, Sylus' second Myth came out during theWhere Drakeshadows Fallevent Wish Pool.

In Sylus' second Myth,Beyond Cloudfall, it is revealed that Sylus was thevery last dragonto rule Philos longbefore the age of humanity. It is at this point that hemeets the MC, a condemned sorceress, for the first time.

The MCsaves Sylus from imprisonmentin the Abyss andmakes a dealto free him if he saves her life. The cost is hersoul. That pivotal moment begins a long,self-fulfilling prophecythat binds their souls together throughout the ages andpersists to this day.

Ultimately, the two arefated to devour each otherand perhaps bring aboutDoomsday, the ultimate end of Philos, though whether this comes to pass is unknown.

Asmore memories are releasedand collected and asthe MC’s affinity with Sylus improves, more information on theirshared pastis sure to be revealed.

Captivating Moment

In Sylus’s permanent Myth,Captivating Moment, the MC is sent to investigate Wanderer appearances in a foreign country as magnetic fluctuations surge, increasing the appearance of Wanderers, possibly connected to theAether Core.

The MCheads to Sylus’s base, informing him of her upcoming trip and the investigation into the Wanderer sightings. Knowing that Sylus is also heading to the same country for business in a few days — information leaked by theloose-lipped twins, Luke and Kieran—the MC asks if she cantag alongwith Sylus in his private jet.

Unconvinced that the MC won’t be a liability, Sylus tells the MC that if she cankeep upwith the demands and challenges of his day-to-day life forthree days, he will take her with him to where the Wanderers are.

The MCacceptsSylus’s deal, and a short drive later, the pair arrive atSylus’s presidential suite, one of his many luxurious residences. Like a crow with three nests,Sylus has homes and hideaways the world over.

Wanting to observe the most authentic version of Sylus’s life, the MC encourages him toact as if she’s just another Mephistoobserving him. With some free time on her hands, she decides to explore Sylus’s home and themany recreational roomswithin.

A man of endless hobbies, Sylus has rooms forkaraoke, boxing, swimming, and gaming.

Eventually, the MC finds Sylus' boxing ring anddecides to traina little to keep her body sharp for hunting Wanderers. Drawn by the sounds of her training, Sylus appears a short while later andoffers to spar with her.

Sylustreats their sparring match as a testto see if she’s worthy of the jet seat she so covets. Ever a professional, Sylus helpscorrect and perfect the MC’s formand technique as they spar in the ring. He’s won countless championships, after all, and thoroughly enjoys a good matchup.

Depending on how well the MC performs in theMyth’s first Kindled moment, she will impress Sylus with her combat prowess and thus, pass his first test.

After their sparring match concludes, the MC hits the showers. When she comes out, she finds thatSylus has replaced all of her clothingwith exact replacements, rather than taking the time to have her original outfit laundered. It’s a casualflex of his wealthand illustrates how differently he lives from the average person.

Similarly, in yet another demonstration of wealth, Sylus has his chef prepare a whole host of foods for him and the MC to indulge in for dinner and dessert. To show how closely Sylus observes others during his everyday life, he tells the MC thatshe has different expressionswhen trying different foods.

Later in the night, after the pair have indulged in their fine dinner, the MC finds Sylus observing the skyline from the windows of hismusic room.

The organ music Sylus is listening to is acallback to the organ music the MC plays for Sylusat the end of his limited Myth,Beyond Cloudfall.

The MC muses that her time with Sylus is likepiecing together a jigsaw puzzle. One piece she has collected over their time together is that he is always leaning his head back when sitting alone and that this habit stems from having to constantlylook down at others who are shorter than him.

Sylus and the MC are interrupted in the music room a little while later by Luke, who brings with him aninvitation from a man named Kovi. Kovi invites Sylus to play a game of cards. Kovi is in business with Sylus, and since the card game is afront for secret dealings, Sylus uses it asone of the MC’s tests.

The MC accompanies Sylus to the card game in Linkon City, shocking Kovi and his associates, who are used toSylus attending games alone. The men are curious as to why Sylus has broken hisconventional solitude, but Sylus refuses to play into their curiosity and instead continues the game.

As Kovi and Sylusnegotiate through bets, the MC notices that Sylus has ahabit of fiddling with nearby objectswhen he is making quick calculations on risks and rewards. In this particular instance, heflips a poker chipover his knuckles as he thinks.

While it’s unclear what the two men are betting on,Sylus seems interested in it, quickly raising his bet to go all in. This move seems to upset Kovi, who cocks a gun beneath the table. Staying calm, the MC calls Sylus’s bet, further confusing Kovi and the other players.

Triggered by the MC’s good hand,a bodyguard draws a gun on her. However, the MC is never one to be threatened, and she easily takes the man downusing Sylus’s training.

Seeing the display of strength, Kovi decides to let whatever grievance he has with Sylus drop, and heallows Sylus and the MC to leave in peace.

Outside, Sylus reveals that Kovi lied, only letting them go to foster afalse sense of security. The pair are being tailed by Kovi’s men and by snipers on nearby rooftops. Completely unfazed by the danger, Sylustreats the MC to breakfastfrom a nearby food cart, marking thebeginning of her second trial day.

While eating beneath the shade of a beautiful, blooming tree, the MC observes that there are many people in the park after them, all disguised as regular people. Sylus explains thatthe MC is a target, not just him.

At the table with Kovi, she had won the bidfor a new kind of Protocore weapon without fully understanding it. As a result, several factions want to kill her. However, Sylus seemsimpressed by how quickly she had applied his boxing lessonswhen she took down the man at the poker game.

He assumes that her teachers at the Hunter’s Academy must have liked her for how quickly she was able to apply their teachings. She admits that she wanted to be liked by her teachers, butshe wants to be liked by Sylus now.

Sylus and the MC areinterrupted by a catthat comes up to them. Sylus reaches out to pet it, but gets scratched. Tobribe the stray catinto liking him, he buysseveral cans of tunaand places them on the ground, befriending not only the stray, but its many friends.

Just because you’re stronger doesn’t mean you stand above the weak.

Sylus refuses to admit that he’s a fan of animals, buthe has a big heart, especially for creatures that areinnocent and suffering, such as the strays on the street.

As the pair gets ready to leave the park, the MC realizes they’re beingboxed in by unknown adversaries.Sylus suggests they get rid of all their opponents in ‘one fell swoop,’ however, the MC vetoes the ideaas there are civilians in the park.

She asks why Sylus stopped to buy her breakfast if he knew they were being ambushed, but he shrugs the question off and claims it’s becausehe doesn’t get to see plants very oftenin the N109 Zone.

After making a speedy escape on his motorcycle, Sylus takes the MCstraight to the airport. They land in the foreign country where they both share business.

Luke and Kieran are surprised to see the MC in the boxing ring with Sylus, and moreso to see that he’s smiling fondly at her while she trains. Sylus tells the twins to get a gun for the MC —the Harrier 700, which is the same gun that the MC uses in combat with the Myth companion,Relentless Conqueror— and to arrange his meetings for him.

Some time later, the MC and Sylus head to the kitchen to cook dinner. His chef called out sick, leaving them to fend for themselves.

Depending on player choices,Sylus will react differentlyto each food item presented to him.

After cooking for themselves, Sylus and the MC sit down to dinner. Because Sylus had taken the MC with him a day early, she reveals that she’s spending her day with him aspayment for their earlier agreementto stay together for three whole days.

Sylus seems surprised by this, ashe had no intentions of keeping herfrom her investigation or from exploring the new country they’re in. Even though the MC offers to conduct her investigation and let Sylus leave her there, he seems annoyed.

He tells hershe should more confidently ask himto wait for her, rather than offer to fly home after him on a commercial flight. He claims that she shouldn’t feel bad when’using' him, ashe wants to use her, too. He punctuates that cryptic remark by placing theHarrier 700on the table between them as a gift for her.

Sylus admits that where he is about to take her will be dangerous and that she’ll need a weapon to remain his companion. Later, the two arrive at a building under construction andmeet a military generalin business with Sylus.

The meeting is an ambush, and after a brief greeting between parties, itbreaks into a gunfight. Sylus and the MC make a speedy escape to the rooftop, where Syluslaunches the two of them off the building.

They land unscathed using Sylus’s Evol. Before the MC can get her bearings,Sylus pulls out a detonatorand detonates a bomb within the building they escaped, destroying it.

With a day left, Sylus offers to spend it however the MC wants, even if that meanshe’ll accompany her as she investigatesthe strange increase in Wanderer appearances.

No one should be forced to keep up with someone else.

The MC questions why Sylus is suddenly so accommodating to her, andhe insists it’s not a sudden change. He tells her that she’s not the only one putting together a jigsaw puzzle. He is intrigued by her, andhe doesn’t plan to let her goanytime soon.
