Dragon Quest 3 Remakeis a quite faithful recreation of the original game for modern systems, and that means much of its overall structure is unchanged, too. The game is limited in its guidance to you, letting you travel about the world with freedom towards your goal.
This means it’s incredibly easy to fall off-track, or become overwhelmed by the number of options presented to you. Plenty of the game can be explored non-linearly too, letting you tackle quests in whatever order you want. To give you a bit more guidance, this is what we recommend for the smoothest progression.
The Quest For A Ship
When the game first starts,it will be fairly linear. You travel through Aliahan, past the Path of Promise, and up to Romaria. Your goal is simple - defeat Baramos. Except you don’t really have much choice but the follow the path the game offers. The first step is to go to Skyfell Tower to defeat Robbin' ‘Ood to get theKing’s Crown, then travel to the Great Pyramid of Ibis to gain theMagic Key.
From here, you’re able to travel on to Portoga, where the king will grant you passage to Baharata toget him some Black Pepper. Bringing this back to him willgrant you a ship of your own, wherein the voice in your head will tell you to seek out the six coloured Orbs across the world. This is when the game truly opens up.
While on the search fro Black Pepper, make sure totake a quick stop at Alltrades Abbeyif you want to change your job.
The Red And Purple Orbs
Red Orb
Once you get your own ship, there are two orbs immediately available to you, the Red and Purple Orbs. We would recommendgetting the Red Orb firstas it’s the easiest, but gives you some time to level up for the Purple Orb later.
Sail all the way to the far east of the map, to the continent that looks like South America. On the eastern coastline, there will be asmall little village called Pirate’s Den. Don’t worry, these pirates are surprisingly nice. All you have to do to find the Red Orb ispush aside the statue outside and climb down the ladderto find it in a chest.
Purple Orb
The Purple Orb is much more involved, and involvesgoing to the island of Jipang, south-east of Baharata. Based on Japan, Jipang has a treacherous creature, Orochi, terrorising the people here, with a maiden sacrificed to appease it.
After defeating it in its cave, return to the main city to defeat Orochi again. Upon this second defeat,it will drop the Purple Orb.
The Green And Blue Orbs
After gaining the Red and Purple Orbs, you have to get the Ultimate Keybefore you can progress further. This involves getting either Fading Jenny from the towns of Persistence or Lanson, or using the Fade spell, andusing it to enter Edina. From here you can get the Bottomless Pot, which then leads to you getting the Ultimate Key.
Green Orb
The Green Orb is located in Theddon, a somewhat eccentric little town. Found in theland south of the mountains of the desert of Ibis, Theddon is completely abandoned, having already been completely ravaged.Until nighttime, when the spirits return to life as if they were never slain.
To get the Green Orb, simply travel towards the jail cell at the back of town during the night and enter it with the Ultimate Key. The prisoner will happily pass on the Green Orb to you, butyou must defeat the Dying Fire boss first.
Blue Orb
The Blue Orb can only be acquired solo, so you’ll want to have builta well-rounded character who can survive by themselvesbefore taking this one on. Ideally, this should be one of the latest Orbs you collect.
Found in the shrine at the back of Lanson, enter with the Ultimate Key before you are asked tobring forth a single character into the dungeonproper, Gaia’s Navel. At the very end of this admittedly short dungeon is the Blue Orb, as well asthe Chiromancer boss. As long as you have some decent healing and defence, you should be perfectly safe.
The Yellow Orb
The Yellow Orb is slightly more complex, as you’re able to’t get it whenever you want, Instead, you have to wait until the game is ready. That is becauseit requires the town you help build, the one found on the eastern coast of the eastern continent, to be fully completed.
After it has reached its final state, when your Merchant has a mansion of their own, make sure tolisten to the citizens planning a revoltto the south of this mansion. Once you’ve heard this, let a few days pass until the game asks you to return. At this point, you’re able to find the Yellow Orb inside the Merchant’s mansion hidden behind their throne.
It’s best todo this one periodically throughout the storyso that you are not wasting time for it to complete.
The Mod Rod And Mountaincleaver
After gaining the Ultimate Key, you can use this to enter the interior section of the South American continent to find the city of Manoza. A city besieged by a monster taking the form of the old king, defeating this monster will grant you the Mod Rod, which can be brought tothe Hermit in Grimlandto get you the Boatman’s Bone.
This bone allows you to accessthe Ghost Ship south of Romaria, which is where you find the Lover’s Locket. This item then lets you get past the statues at Olivia’s Promontory, granting you access to the Shrine of Shackles. In here, you shall find the spirit of Simão, which will guide you toMountaincleaver hidden beneath his bed.
Phew. With that long series of events completed, you may nowproceed to Mt. Necrogond and toss the sword into the volcano, defeating Garboyle and opening the way to the Necrogond proper.
The Silver Orb
Maw Of The Necrogond
The very final Orb is found past the Maw of the Necrogond. This isn’t an overly complex dungeon, just a plain and simple long one. It’s packed with some pretty tough enemies, so it’s recommended that you have already changed the Jobs of some characters to give them some versatility at this point.
After passing through the Maw of the Necrogond, which thankfully has no boss, then you maytravel to the east to find the Shrine of the Necrogond. Enter this building to find a man rejoiced at your presence, who will hand youthe final Silver Orbas thanks.
Defeating Baramos
With all six Orbs in hand, you may nowtravel to the Everbird Shrine, found on the snowy island far south of Ibis, and climb to the very top to place all the Orbs in their respective pedestals. This will awaken the Everbird, Ramia, who you can now use tofly across the world, including directly to Baramos’ Lair.
Baramos' Lair is a winding dungeonfilled with plenty of challenging enemies. Thankfully, you may actually skip most of the lairif you’re ready to go head-to-head with Baramos himself. Except once you defeat that great evil, the world is not yet saved.
Collecting The Rainbow Drop
The Key Items
After some brief celebrations at Aliahan, Zoma appears and the Pit of Giaga opens into the World of Darkness. Before heading there, make sure to check the newly-revealed Castle of the Dragon Queen first tocollect the Sphere of Light, then head to the Pit of Giaga.
In Alefgard, the World of Darkness, your goal is to reach Zoma’s Citadel, andthis requires the Rainbow Drop. This in turn is made from three items -the Sunstone, Staff of Rain, and Sacred Amulet. The best way to collect all these is in counter-clockwise order, starting at Tantegel.
Here’s the order to gather them in:
With all of these items in hand, you maytravel to the island south-east of the Shrine of Spiritsas mentioned by Rubiss to combine these items into the Rainbow Drop, which is used to reach Zoma’s Citadel.
The Legendary Treasures Set
However, before you use the Rainbow Drop to reach Zoma, you shouldgather up the Legendary Treasures, as these pieces of equipment are immensely powerful. Here they are, in order:
The Sword of Kings is made up of three parts -Orichalcumfound in Domdara, theBroken Bladefound in Rimuldar, and theForging Hammerfound in Jipang. With all three of these in hand, you may go to the blacksmith in Kol to have him forge the Sword of Kings. Now you’re set to take on Zoma.
If youpreviously acquired Ortega’s Helmetin Mur,you can upgrade it into the Auroral Helmwith a dedicated a sidequest of its own.
Defeating Zoma
At this point, you will have completed everything possible to have brought yourself to this point.Zoma’s Citadel is the actual endpointof the game, so make sure you’re appropriately leveled (around 40-45) before taking it on.
After entering with the Rainbow Drop, the dungeon itself isn’t too complex, though is packed with powerful enemies. The dungeon doesn’t give you an open to teleport back to the entrance until you’ve reached the end, sotry to conserve yourselfuntil that point.
When you encounter Zoma, you will have to face down a gauntlet of bossesbefore you can face the main villain himself, so make sure to leave and heal up beforehand. With Zoma finally defeated, you are teleported to Talontear Tunnel with the gateway back to your world closed before you.Dragon Quest 3 Remake is finally complete, and Dragon Quest 1 and 2 set up.
Loading a completed save lets you travel to the Castle of the Dragon Queen for anexclusive post-game dungeon.
