InCaves of Qud, there are tons of different items that you can gather as you explore the vast world. One item type that you will come across from time to time is the humble books. Books can contain complete nonsense, but sometimes, they may hold some valuable knowledge.

Here, we are going to take a look at what you can do with books in Caves of Qud. This will include how to use them, as well as what you can do with books that have already been read, including selling them and exchanging them for some experience.

A player trading a book with Sheba.

How Are Books Generated?

For the most part, books are randomly generated. You will be able to findsome prewritten books in the game, but for the most part, you’ll find randomized scraps. For example, when you are working on the quest Raising Indrix, you will come across Mamon’s hut, which has a bloody piece of parchment in it.

The parchment inside the hut has an eerie message about the Amaranthine Prism, which is prewritten. Anyone who stumbles across this paper willread the same exact thing.

Yellow books areprewritten, white books are randomly generated, and green bookscontain recipes that you can learn.

What To Do With Books

First and foremost, read the book!By clicking on it, you’ll be able to select the ‘read’ option. You may gain some information(such as a recipe from green books), but it may also be a little bit of nonsense.

After the book has been read, you have a few different options on what to do.

Store The Book

This is the simplest method, but it won’t earn you anything. Still, if you want to have a library of sorts, you cantuck the books away in a chest or table somewhere.

Sell The Book

If you want to make some quick water, you may sell the book. For example, we looked at the trade for The Canticles Cromaic, Verses XVII-XXIV, andit would sell for $21.This, of course, isn’t the most, but there areother things to do with books if you want to get the most out of themand already have plenty of money.

Trade The Book For XP

The best thing to do with extra books is totrade them in for XP.This is done atSheba Hagadia, Bookbinder and Librarian of the Stilt.you may find this NPC in the Six Day Stilt, one screen up from the center of town.

Right as you enter the building here, she will be in the room immediately to the left. Here, you can trade goods (including books), as well ashand over books to gain experience. The exact amount of XP you earn will vary, but overall, this is a good passive way to potentially level up.

If the XP isn’t enough, you may always just sell the book directly to Sheba.
