The duality of the worlds inLife Is Strange: Double Exposureis a prominent theme throughout the game, and is even represented in a project made by Living World Diamond Washington called The Dualtone Phone Booth. The idea of this project is that people can leave messages for the future and then hear messages from the past.
You’ll first come across this project during Chapter 2, but it’s more than just a display. How do you use it, and what happens if you do? What messages might you hear from those in the past? Interacting with this project goes towards unlocking the Patronizing (The Good Kind) achievement/trophy.
How To Use The Dualtone Phone Booth
Diamond’s Dualtone Phone Booth allows students and faculty toleave a message for someone in the future, but also to hear a message fromsomeone in the past. These may be messages of encouragement, or someone making a confession - the possibilities are endless.
Before you can use the phone booth, you must firstchoose the “look” option, which triggers Max to say that she should check it out. Then,a new option opens upto leave a message for the future or hear a message from the past.
Here you also have the option totake a snapshot of the boothand post it Crosstalk, which goes towardsunlocking the Frame Fatale Achievement/Trophy.
First, you have toleave a message for the Future from the Past Phone. You get two options:
Then, go to the Future Phone, andselect “Hear from the Past.“No matter which message you left in the Past Phone, you’ll hear amessage from “Phone Guy” about an overbearing teacher.
It’s very possible that this"Phone Guy” is Martin Hart, whose grade you can change in Dead World during Chapter 3.
The next time you’re in the Living World FAB is in Chapter 3. When you select Talk to The Future, your options for messages to leave are:
On the Future phone, you’ll hear a message from a “Phone Girl” who’sunsure if she should speak upabout something going on in an unnamed society.
If you don’t use the Dualtone phone booth in Chapter 2, youwon’t have the opportunity to use it in Chatper 3. But whether you use it or notdoesn’t have any effect on the story later.During the end of chapter recap for both chapters, it shows youwhether you interacted with the Phone Project Installation or not, not what messages you chose to leave.
