This has been a major year forDungeons & Dragons, so let’s all take a look back at 2024, the year that will forever be immortalised in the nameDungeons & Dragons 2024 Core Rulebook Update, at least until we think of a better name. Maybe we’ll go with ‘2024 edition’, breaking tradition from recognising each set of rules by its number. Maybe we’ll go with ‘5.5e’, as we probably should have to begin with. In any case, let’s check out the last 12 months.
We’re going to be peering into the arcane mysterious of ye olde TG traffic metrics to see what everyone was looking for in 2024, as well as taking a look at the community and developments in the game as a whole. Without further ado, let’s roll for Paying Attention And Leaving Polite Comments! Nat 1. Nevertheless…
Over 100,000 New Players Joined D&D In 2024
The Dungeons & Dragons community is constantly growing, and the popularity ofBaldur’s Gate 3last year has only led to a greater influx. But how many new players pick the game up each year? It seems like an impossible question to track. Or rather, seemed. Since we have an article onfilling out a character sheet for the first time, and no new player could possibly have considered starting the game without consulting it, we can safely say that over 100,000 new players joined the fold this year.
Most Popular Classes
With the launch of the new Player’s Handbook this year, we had to overhaul all of our class guides to accommodate both the 2014 (5e) rules and 2024 (I’m still calling it 5.5e) rules. Care to guess which five classes received the biggest spikes in the aftermath of the new rules? Times up, here’s the answers.
Biggest Drama
No year in review for a game as contentious as Dungeons & Dragons would be complete without an overview of various controversies. Some substantive, some nonsense (I will spare your ire by leaving that up to interpretation), these were the biggest stories in the biggest tabletop game’s last 12 months.
TheGamer Does D&D
As some of you may know, I run my own homebrew campaign with some staff from TheGamer, and regularly chronicle our adventures on the site. I’d probably write them even if no one read them because everything in my life exists primarily to be mulched into content, but it’s great to see so many people checking in with our escapades. These were the most read articles that said mulch was piped into and baked for 45 minutes at 190 degrees.
How To Add Football (Soccer) To Dungeons & Dragonstanked last year, but somehow recovered to be one of the stronger performers this year. Thanks, my fellow sporty nerds.
Your Top Artist Of 2024
Was your top artist of 2024 Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo, or Billie Eilish? If you said ‘no’, this is the end of the article. Thanks for stopping by. However, if you answered ‘yes’, then TheGamer (me, I’mTheGamer) has one more surprise for you.
I recently wrote aboutinventing subclasses for the five icons of modern pop music, and your special reward is you get to click that link and give me traffic so I can keep writing silly stuff like this next year. Exciting! You can find out all the information on the subclasses, and download them for free, at the link above.
