Summary

Hyper Light Breakeroffers players a number of different tools in combat, but none are as important as Amps. Amps are a secondary attack or an amplification of a current attack that can give you a competitive edge out in the Overgrowth. But, which Amps are the best?

Like most elements in Hyper Light Breaker, this will all depend on overall playstyle. Different Amps will work better for different types of players depending on a variety of factors. Do you want to play in close quarters combat, or more at a range? Whatever the answer, here are some of the best Amps in the game.

The Chrome Golem Amp screen in Hyper Light Breaker.

Hyper Light Breaker is currently in Early Access; this list is subject to change with the release of the full game.

Assist in dense combat situations.

The Chrome Golem Amp summons a leaper-like construct that will fight alongside you for a limited period of time. The Chrome Golem packs a really mighty punch, so save this one for boss battles with crowns or other intense moments like extraction.

The only downside to the Chrome Golem is that, unlike some other Amps Hyper Light Breaker has to offer, enemies will typically target the Chrome Golem over the player. This means, depending on how many enemies you’re fighting, the Chrome Golem may go down pretty quickly. However, this can be helpful as a distraction.

The vulcan drone amp UI screen in Hyper Light Breaker.

Assist in combat, stronger on enemies inflicted with Rot.

The Vulcan Drone is another Amp that offers you a buff in combat. When summoned, the Vulcan Drone will follow you and fly around the battlefield, taking shots at enemies. Each shot deals roughly two to eight points of damage to enemies. This Amp is particularly good against lower HP enemies.

The other great place to use the Vulcan Drone is in Crown battles. The Vulcan Drone isn’t particularly effective against the Crowns, but since boss battles often have minions roaming around, it’s helpful to have a little friend who can take these out for you. This will leave you open to deal with the Crown itself.

The selection screen for the Hacking Shrapnel Cloud Amp in Hyper Light Breaker.

Throw a grenade, raining shrapnel down on enemies.

Inflicting status effects on enemiesin the Overgrowthis always a good idea. Hack is also one of the best effects that Hyper Light Breaker has to offer. These form a perfect marriage in the form of the Shrapnel Cloud Amp.

When you’re surrounded by enemies or see an onslaught coming in during extraction, throw down this grenade into a large group of enemies. The inflicted hack on all of them is sure to slow them down. Plus, the massive AoE (area of effect) damage can be particularly helpful during extraction, especially if you’re on your last legs.

The selection screen for the Caretake Shield Amp in Hyper Light Breaker.

Spawn a protective barrier around yourself.

The Caretaker Shield Amp has a bit of a higher skill ceiling, but if you can master it, this Amp is undoubtedly worth it. It works because, when you activate the Amp, you’ll trigger a protective barrier around yourself that lasts for about five seconds. This barrier then blocks one attack from an enemy before bursting in an explosive radius.

This radius not only does damage, but it knocks back and staggers all of the enemies around you. If you can master stagger mechanics, you’ll be executing the remaining enemies on the battlefield, possibly regenerating healthwithout using Medkitsand taking down even the most formidable foes in one fell swoop.

A breaker finds the Root Hash Hack Amp in the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker.

Summon an old foe to aid you in battle.

Similar to other Amps that summon assists in combat, the Root-Hash Hack Amp summons an enemy you recently vanquished to aid you in battle. However, as simple as this Amp sounds, when used efficiently, you can maximize this benefit to its fullest potential.

When you activate the Amp, a glowing circle forms on the ground, any enemy you kill in this radius for the duration of the Amp will respawn and attack foes for you. This means that, as there are no limits to how many enemies you can respawn, this Amp is perfect for large group combat scenarios. In extraction, you may even find your team outnumbering the enemies you’re fighting against.

The UI selection screen for the Berserker’s Exoskeleton Amp in Hyper Light Breaker.

Increase in Armor.

The Berserker’s Exoskeleton Amp does a few things simultaneously. First, it increases your Armor by 20 percent (stacking withyour Sycom stats) for about eight seconds. As long as the Amp is active, your attacks cannot be interrupted. This means you won’t find yourself staggering nearly as much and getting pummeled by follow-up attacks.

Additionally, any damage you take while the Amp is active is added and stacked to your next attack, and you can heal yourself for the amount of damage you do. Obviously, this is a lot to keep track of, but you should activate this amp when dozens of enemies are present. You’ll cleave your way through them and heal yourself during the process.

The Crush Block Amp selection screen in the Cursed Outpost in Hyper Light Breaker.

Summons a giant cube to aid you in battle.

This Amp is another example of a secondary ability with a high skill ceiling. But, if you can nail down its mechanics and use it sparingly, it’s highly effective, particularly against larger foes. When activated, this Amp summons a giant cube, crushing everything beneath it for anywhere from 60 to 200 damage.

If you can aim it right, this cube will take down larger foes in a single hit, or dozens of smaller enemies. The only issue with this Amp is it’s not great for Crown combat, as most Crowns can adeptly dodge it without so much as a scratch. Prioritize this Amp for normal runs where you plan to extract before taking down a Crown.

A breaker finds the Shatter Gauntlet Amp in the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker.

Launch a high damage attack with knockback.

The Crystal Shatter Gauntlet Amp is simple, yet effective. When you charge up this Amp, you’ll aim a long punch attack. When enemies are struck by this Amp, they are crystalized, taking ten damage after a few seconds of being slowed. In addition to that, they’ll take anywhere from 200 to 350 damage plus knockback.

The knockback effect is not to be underestimated. If you use this on large foes, you may take them out in a single hit sometimes or knock them back and follow up with a series of Rail or long-ranged attacks. Again, the only issue here is that this knockback effect does not apply to Crowns, though they’ll still take the damage.
