The Outer Worlds 2just got its first gameplay trailer atThe Game Awards. The trailer confirms that despite Obsidian being an Xbox studio, it won’t be a console exclusive, also coming to PS5.
On top of that, the trailer gives us a release window of 2025. If it sticks to this date, then we’re getting two Obsidian games in one year, with Avowed launching on February 18.

Obsidian’s next RPG after Avowed won’t be an Xbox console exclusive
As we can see, it is a very Obsidian-y trailer. It starts by going over all the other sequels it’s developed - all of which are for series in which it didn’t make the first instalment. This includes poking fun at Fallout: New Vegas, calling it Fallout 3 Part 2.
The trailer then gives us a good look at the combat, with some new ways to get through enemies. This includes some new weapons, a lot of explosions,anda return of the ragdoll physics in previous Obsidian games.
Not only does the trailer confirm that we’re getting two Obsidian games in 2025, but also that the studio is once again releasing games on PS5. Right now, Avowed is set to come to Xbox and PC, skipping the Sony platform. Now, with The Outer Worlds 2 making the leap, then it’s possible Avowed will too.
The first game also made it onto Nintendo Switch. We’ll have to wait and see if The Outer Worlds 2 gets ported to its successor.
Previously, Pentiment skipped PS5 at launch, before coming to the platform later on. So, it seems that Obsidian is part of Xbox’s efforts to get some more of its games on PS5, after previously going all in on exclusives for the Xbox Series X/S generation.
