Weapons inDragon Quest 3 Remakecan bounce between being pretty standard and having very unique effects, which are going to dramatically change the course of the battle because of their presence. You’ll be discovering new weapons throughout your journey in the game, and changing characters' equipment as you do.
Each vocation has a different role in DQ3 Remake, and thosedifferent roles are going to make use of different weapons. There’s no best individual weapon for any class, so we’ll mostly go over what weapon types are great for each vocation, and give individual suggestions within those types when they’re relevant.
The Best Weapons For A Warrior
The Warrior is going to be the most standard here, and comes with the least amount of options. They are going to equip a weapon that dealssingle-target damage, like a sword, or a hammer. There’s no wiggle room there, because they cannot equip other types of weapons.
But within that, the Warrior does have someunique options that fit their tanking role well:
Effect
Orochi’s Sword
This sword canlower the defenses of a group of enemies, ensuring your team has an easier time defeating them. This is great for turns you don’t need to step in front of an attack for an ally.
Thunderbolt Blade
This weapon cancast Boom on an enemy, giving the Warrior the chance to deal non-physical damage without using MP.
The Best Weapons For A Priest
For a Priest, any support-type weapon is going to be beneficial. Many turns with the Priest are going to be focused on things other than dealing damage, and if you can do thatwithout using MP, it’s going to have great value.
There aren’t a lot of weapons that have this kind of ability, but here are two that are perfect fits for the Priest.
Staff of Sleep
The Staff of Sleep cancast Snooze on a group of enemies. This is going to (usually) put at least one enemy to sleep, ensuring the enemy team deals less damage on their turn, and so the Priest has less damage to heal back on allies.
Sage’s Staff
The Sage’s Staff cancast Midheal, which is a very good mid-tier healing spell. Being able to cast this without using MP is going to make the Priest’s MP pool go a lot further.
The Best Weapons For A Mage (And A Sage)
The Mage can gotwo different directions with their weapon choice; they canaccentuate their damageoptions with a staff that allows them to basically cast a spell without using MP, or they can go witha support staff that gives them extra versatility.
There are a lot of different staffs that provide extra damage options, and one is included in the table below, along with a couple of support-style staffs that fit the Mage well.
Wizard’s Staff
The Wizard’s Staff allows you tocast a fire spell for free; for monsters weak to fire, this is perfect.
Staff of Rain
The Staff of Rain allows you tocast Fizzle without using MP, which will prevent the enemy from using spells. This is absolutely great for fighting groups of enemies that can cast spells.
This is going toadd some support capabilitiesto the Mage, taking some pressure off your Priest (if your lineup has one).
Since theSage is a combination of the Mage and Priest, they find fantastic utility in any of the weapons listed for either vocation. It’s going to depend entirely on what role you want to lean into for your Sage.
The Best Weapons For A Gadabout
The weapon choice for the Gadabout isnot a huge concern. They aren’t intended as a class that you stick with past the point where you canturn a Gadabout into a Sage.
But, you’re going to have to deal with the Gadabout long enough to get there. While you’re grinding them to level 20, here are some weapon types that can find a good home with the Gadabout.
Boomerangs
You can’t rely on the Gadabout to follow commands in a fight. Because of this, you can’t count on the damage they are expected to do each turn.Weapons that deal damage to groups of enemiesare great for this, because it’s a nice bonus damage that can be meaningful, but you aren’t relying on them to deal significant damage to one enemy to finish them off.
Whips
For the same reason as the Boomerangs,Whips are a great option for the Gadabout. Both the Boomerang and Whip have different options in the class, but not much in terms of weapons with unique effects.
The Best Weapons For A Thief
The Thief is a class that does not have incredible value in combat, but when used well, is still far from useless. Regarding a weapon type, they can use a couple of different options:multi-targetandsingle-target weapons.
Effects
Once again, Boomerangs are a great weapon choice for any character that can use them. These dealincredible damage to every enemy present, not just one group. They deal greater damage from left to right, so expect the enemies on the left to drop first.
Assassin’s Dagger
The Assassin’s Dagger is a single-target weapon, but it has thechance to defeat an enemy in a single hit. This isn’t going to happen consistently, but is a great bonus when it does. Target high-health or high-priority enemies with this, to make the most of the effect.
The Best Weapons For A Monster Wrangler
The Monster Wrangler can fit well into a severe damage-dealing role, and provide a little bit of support alongside it, too. Their damage-dealing abilities areprimarily suited to multi-target damage, and their weapon choices can either accentuate that, or make up for it by adding some single-target options.
Boomerangs are going to work great alongside abilities likeMonster Pile-On and Boulder Toss that also deal multi-target damage, and ensure that the Monster Wrangler is going something similar, whether they’re using MP or not.
Blades/Claws
Both Blade-type weapons like swords and forks and Claw-type weapons can also be great for the Monster Wrangler if they’re looking to add somesingle-target potentialto what they can do.
The Best Weapons For A Martial Artist
Martial Artists are a special case when it comes to weaponry. Equipping most weapons with a Martial Artist is actually going todecrease your attack, as compared to simply using bare hands.
The exception to this is theClaw weapon type. Most other classes cannot equip a claw, but it has extreme value for the Martial Artist.
Claw
There are not any real options for Claws that have unique effects; they mostly are just flat upgrades over each other, in terms of damage. But, these aresingle-target damage weapons, and with the Martial Artist’s natural ability to deal critical damage, theycan drop many enemies in a single hit.
The Best Weapons For A Merchant
Merchants are not meant to be combat specialists. They can hold their own with proper support, but for the most part, you’ll becarrying your Merchant through the battlewith the other characters in your lineup.
But, they can still attack, so there are some options that are better than others. They don’t have many significant options for weapons with unique effects, but these weapon types do particularly well with Merchants.
Boomerangs show up once again, and for good reason. While the Merchant doesn’t have great attack power overall, the Boomerang is going to ensure you get the most out of what they do have, enabling them to hit every enemy present.
Since the Merchant doesn’t have incredible attack power, thechance to instakill an enemyis a huge upgrade for them. They might not do a lot, but if they can drop a powerful enemy with immediacy, they can make a significant impact in a battle.
The Best Weapons For The Hero
The Hero has thewidest variety of weaponry availableto them. Alongside that, they have thewidest variety of spells and abilitiesthey can use, as well. This means that your weapon is going to need to accentuate whatever role you plan on filling with the Hero.
For the last time, Boomerangs are game-changers not just in the early game, but throughout. If you want your Hero to be asupport-damage type characterwith a single-target damage character in the lineup alongside them, there’sno better choice than a Boomerang.
The Thunderbolt Blade isone of many single-target damage weapons that have unique effects. The Thunderbolt Blade is included here because its damage type is the one thatmost monsters are weak to, but there are plenty of other single-target damage weapons with different elemental effects that serve a similar purpose.
Zombiesbane/Dragonsbane
Effective against zombie-type enemies and dragon-type enemies respectively, these weapons aregreat to equip in their own specific situations. They’re going to make a significant damage difference, and dragons in particular can have a problematic amount of health.
