There are some powerful cards to be found inPokemon TCG Pocket’sMythical Island set. With Water already being one of the strongest types in the game, the additional cards in the set allow the type to access new strategies as well as get upgrades for cards that already existed.

As always, Water loves getting free Energy from Misty as well as sniping the Bench with some of the toughest water blasts. With iconic HM Moves being printed and game-changing Abilities taking the stage, it begs the question as to which of the Water Pokemon introduced in Mythical Island is the true king of the seas.

8Magikarp

A Fish Out Of Water

Magikarp is still one of the weakest Basic Pokemon in the game, with only 30 HP. Anything can knock it out with ease, but this Magikarp has one redeeming quality that gives it an edge over its predecessor. This is Magikarp’s Leap Out Move, which can get it out of a jam.

The last thing you want to do is open Magikarp in your hand with noother Basic Pokemon to put in the Active Spot. Luckily, you have cards that can fetch other Pokemon, such as Poke Ball or the lucky draw from Professor’s Research. Leap Out gives your Magikarp a chance to swap itself out once you get another Pokemon on the Bench.

7Finneon

The First Step Towards Bench Control

Finneon may not seem like much at first glance, but it is actually a Basic Pokemon with the potential to replace Horsea despite having the exact same stats. Finneon has 60 HP, a Retreat Cost of one, and a Move that does 20 damage.

This is all pretty standard when it comes to Basic Pokemon. It doesn’t even have an Ability. Luckily, it Evolves into something much better, making Finneon a good investmentif you’re building a Water deckthat can fight against Evolution decks.

6Lumineon

Better Than Seadra

Lumineon officially power creeps Seadra. With 80 HP, it can take ten more damage than Seadra, while its Move Aqua Liner can deal 50 damage to the Bench for only two Energy instead of three. While this Pokemon cannot hit the Pokemon right in front of it, 50 damage is not exactly something you would use against the Active Pokemon for the best results anyway.

Seadra was built for sniping the Bench, but Lumineon can do it cheaper, allowing it to go live faster. This can be the speed boost needed to knock out those other Benched Basic Pokemon before they get the chance to Evolve. Lumineon also has no Retreat Cost, making it easy to switch out when you’re done sniping your opponent’s Bench.

5Chewtle

Chew On This

Chewtle has a tough bite. With 80 HP, it can tank a few hits from some of the weaker Basic Pokemon during the early game. However, your goal, if you choose to run this line, is to get it to Evolve into Drednaw for some stun strategies.

Bite does 30 damage for two Energy, making it a semi-decent early hitter. It’s not fantastic, but it’s not terrible either. The biggest downside to running Chewtle is the two Retreat Cost, which can lock you into this Pokemon if you open it and no other Basics. This can make it difficult to recall if it keeps getting hit.

4Drednaw

Energy Disruption

Once you Evolve Chewtle into Drednaw, it becomes a powerful stun Pokemon. This card has the same general effect as the standard Gyarados found in Genetic Apex, but it has a few benefits that make it better.

First off, Crunch only needs three Energy to start landing hits. While it only does 70 damage, you’re able to start flipping coins for the Energy discard quicker. This Pokemon also has a Retreat Cost of three instead of four, making it somewhat easier to recall.While costs may be high, Water Pokemon have the advantage of being able touse Misty for Energy acceleration, making even the highest-cost moves, such as Drednaw’s Crunch, more viable.

3Cramorant

An Evasive Cramorant

Cramorant is a Basic Pokemon that does for Water decks,what Dugtrio does for Fighting decks. This Pokemon has 80 HP and the Move, Dive, which protects it from taking any damage or effects from Moves. You’ll need to flip a coin to see if this works for you or not, but landing the coin correctly is the best outcome.

The specific wording of Cramorant’s Dive is also much better when you take a closer look. It specifically protects Cramorant, making it better than effects that stop your opponent’s Active Pokemon from dealing damage. This means that your opponent’s only option if they want to deal some damage is to Sabrina your Cramorant away for an unprotected target.

2Gyarados ex

An Upgrade For Gyarados

Gyarados ex has a similar effect to its non-ex counterpart, but the wording makes all the difference.With 180 HP, this Pokemon is one of the toughest, making the risk of playing Magikarp worth it. While its Move costs four Energy, you can deal with a whopping 140 damage in the process, which eliminates some of the toughest Pokemon in the game.

Unlike the original Gyarados that discards an Energy from the Pokemon that got hit by the Move, Gyarados ex pools all the Energy on the field together and removes one random. So, instead of knocking out your opponent’s Pokemon and getting no Energy discard, Rampaging Whirlpool can get a clean knockout with the chance to remove Energy from your opponent’s backup Pokemon.

1Vaporeon

Water Gets Even More Energy Efficient

The Water-type Pokemon love their Energy acceleration. Vaporeon may not be able to generate energy, but it can passively shuffle around Energy from one Water Pokemon to another. This makes Wash Outa fantastic ability, since some of the toughest Moves can get pretty expensive whether you’re playing Gyarados ex or Blastoise ex.

This also allows you to put Energy from your weakened Pokemon to better use rather than seeing them disappear if they get knocked out. Vaporeon can also deal some decent damage if it gets dragged out into the Active Spot. However, this card works best on the Bench lending support to your stronger Water Pokemon.
