The holidays can be a joyous time for many, where we can all celebrate in different kinds of ways. Many of us remember that feeling when we ran to the tree, lit candles, put up lights, and opened presents with loved ones, all in the spirit of the season and in sharing love with one another.

The word ‘festive’ takes on different meanings for everyone, but for many, it means joyful celebration, and a feeling of happiness related to special occasions and times of the year. In terms of festivePokemon, we see a lot of joyous, symbolic representations. So, here are our choices for the Most Festive Pokemon.

Ho-Oh gracefully flying near a rainbow in the Pokemon anime.

8Ho-Oh

Ho Ho

This is an obvious start to our list. Ho-Oh is not only the legendary game mascot of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon HeartGold but could also be “ho ho” respelled with festive flair. During the time of the year when many are running around, possibly trying to find that last-minute present, sometimes you need to look up to the sky and remember there are greater, much larger things above.

Ho-Oh is festive because they may represent the larger meaning of the season. The meaning of the unattainable, mythic status that we need to stop and appreciate. Even if the seasons can be stressful for you, filled with perhaps too much running around and too many “ho ho’s,” take a step back and appreciate the one legendary Ho-Oh. Remember that this time of the year has the power to carry a legendary, calm, and very rare feeling.

7Vanilluxe

Snow

Vanilluxe is an Ice-type Pokemon, and it’s the final form of Vanillite. It resembles two happy snow cones who eventually learn the moves Avalanche and Blizzard. Vanilluxe enjoys and thrives in inclement, snowy weather.

From songs like “White Christmas” to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” many people associate snow and climate with festive and seasonal times. Thus, Vanilluxe, like a wintertime cold front, sweeps right into our list.

Oh Pokemon Tree

Trees are a big part of the Christmas season, and for many, putting up a tree is a fun tradition. Snover is an icy-covered pine tree typical to wintertime and the holidays. Waking up on Christmas morning to see snow on the tree tops can make for a really picturesque scene, and Snover would fit right in.

Snover is a very festive Pokemon, but once evolved, Abomasnow is less festive and a bit more intimidating, so because of that, Snover ranks on our list, but stops here.

Stantler and offspring in the Pokemon anime.

5Stantler

The Most Famous Reindeer Of All?

Stantler and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer make a great team. I’m not sure exactly how the Pokemon and North Pole crossover works, but I definitely do know that it is a festive powerhouse full of speed, bright lights, and correctly driven sleighs.

Stantler has indeed helped Santa before, and clearly they are very close in resemblance to Rudolph. Although there is no song for Stantler, and although their nose isn’t super shiny or red, Stantler ranks on our list because they would make an excellent addition to Santa’s team to help deliver presents on Christmas night.

Spooky Candles

Candles have been a part of festive tradition for a very long time. Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting a special candelabrum called a Menorah, and Kwanzaa uses the Kinara which is a seven-branched candleholder, symbolizing the seven principles of Kwanzaa.

Litwick is a candle-like Ghost and Fire Pokemon, and “Its flame is usually out, but it starts shining when Litwick absorbs life-force from people or Pokemon.” It’s not totally ideal for the joyous, most wonderful time of the year vibes, but candles do play a large part in a lot of festive traditions ranging from Hanukkah to Kwanzaa to Christmas. For that, this life-force absorber ranks pretty high on our list.

Starmie-Pokémon-Gen-I

3Starmie

Shining Star

Starmie is a rather unique Pokemon, and it looks like two purple starfish. It is a dual-type Water/Psychic Pokemon, and it has been noted to live deep in the sea or possibly in outer space. It has the power to emit rich, colorful lights from its core.

In the festive season, most of us are in search of light. It’s said that the Star of Bethlehem (up for debate on whether it was an actual star or unusual space lights) led the Magi to Jesus’s Bethlehem birthplace. So the star has a great significance in traditional Christmas festivities, landing at the top of almost every single Christmas Tree and landing Starmie close to the top of our list.

Delibird giving a gift to other pokemon

2Delibird

Overnight Delivery

They say storks deliver babies. Well, in the Pokemon world, Delibirds deliver presents. Delibird is a dual-type Ice and Flying Pokemon that is perfect for braving the seasonal weather.

Delibird even kinda looks like Santa with its red and white feathers. If Pokemon were real, and if Delibird was able to lend its delivery prowess to today’s busy economy, Delibird would be a true asset to the delivery infrastructure of the world, making Delibird almost our Most Festive Pokemon.

Charmander Is Raring To Go

1Charmander

Just A Single Ember

Pokemon began with Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue, where players chose from either Charmander, Bulbasaur, or Squirtle to begin their journey. Charmander is one of just three Pure Fire-type Pokemon with one single flame. Charmander’s single flame can be viewed as the candle that ignited the Pokemon world.

Whether it be a birthday, a gathering, or a seasonal celebration such as Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, festivals of all kinds usually have fire and light playing huge, important roles. Since festivals celebrate beginnings through light and fire, be it the birthday of Jesus, Hanukkah’s Festival of Lights, or the seven candles for Kwanzaa, we are ranking the first-generation fire starter Charmander as our clear winner for the most festive Pokemon.
