WithMy Hero Academiafinally wrapped up, it’s hard not to want more. Creator Horikoshi turned superhero world-building on its head with his world in which most people have powers, “quirks,” and only a few don’t. With such an interesting concept, there’s a lot of potential for more stories to be told, even after Midoriya’s story has finished.
Whether it’s spending more time with already beloved characters, filling in some of the backstories that have been hinted at, exploring more of the ideas presented, or simply continuing aspects of the story we have, there are a lot of directions that spin-offs could take. Which one you want to see probably depends on what you liked in the initial story, but here are some possibilities.
10Eri
A Sequel About Another Future Hero
Eri might not want to become a hero, but once she grows up she’s the closest we get to Midoriya having a legacy character. It would be interesting to see her take up her work in his name after he’d saved and inspired her. The same way that All-Might had done for him.
We would also get to see the impact that Midoryia had on the next generation of heroes, and we’d get to see more of the other kid he saved, too: Koda. Right now, this might be the most interesting future spin-off from this cast of characters.
9AFO
A Darker Prequel Series To My Hero Academia
With the timeline being a little unclear about the rise of AFO, it would be interesting to see a spin-off where you witness that rise to power first-hand. It would have a darker tone than My Hero Academia does (of course), and it could also give the vestiges of OFA a little bit more screen time.
This spin-off could also double as an exploration of the chaos that happened when Quirks first appeared and the political drama that followed. We might even get an answer as to what exactly quirks are and how they came to be so dominant in the world of My Hero Academia.
8The Quirk Underground
The Criminal World Of Quirks Outside Of Villains
With the role of “villain” taking a unique place in the legal system’s dealing with quirks, what’s happened to organized crime outside of that? Overhaul’s arc briefly deals with the world of organized crime, introducing the Yakuza, which has largely fallen by the wayside after the introduction of quirks.
It would be interesting to see the clash between the former criminal empires and this new class of villains. Especially if the two are becoming more intertwined with time.
7Aizawa
A Noir-Style Pro Hero Spin-Off
From what we see of Aizawa in the Vigilantes spin-off, his underground style of pro-hero work could make for an interesting series. Not only would fans get to see more of a beloved character, but the series could have a more grounded tone that better fits Aizawa’s vibes as he attempts to bridge the gap between villains and heroes.
Plus, despite how close the two are, we don’t get to see much of Aizawa and Present Mic’s fighting style together.With him also taking fan favorite Shinso as his mentee,there’s a lot of possibility for interesting team dynamics.
6Ochako
Taking Up The Torch For Future Heroes
As a compelling student hero, Ochako has more than enough character to take the spotlight in a spin-off series about the work she’s doing for quirk counseling. We would also get to see more of the characters we’ve come to know and love.
Essentially, she’d be taking over as the protagonist in the story we’re familiar with to continue it. She’s a perfect voice for a time of peace, and it would be nice to get to spend time with these characters outside of a crisis.
5The Politics Of Quirks
Think The Members Of The Meta Liberation Army
There are a lot of politics happening behind the scenes that determine who’s a hero, who’s a villain, and how quirks are allowed to be used in public. We mainly see this in the main series when it’s revealed that the roles in the Meta Liberation Army include a politician, a journalist, and a corporate head.
While their story has been told, it would be interesting to see others like it. Who is trying to pull the strings behind the regulation of quirks? How has this world come to be defined, for better or worse, by these actors and who is working to change what’s been established going forward?
4The Lurkers
Exploring What It Means To Be A Hero
In the course of the plot, you learn that Kamui Woods has become a lot more popular since the in-universe release of a fascinating documentary that details his dark past. This sounds incredibly promising, and it would be cool to learn more about the character based on that teasing of a juicy backstory.
Plus, he and the other two members of the Lurkers, Mt Lady and Edgeshot, have a fun chemistry that would make for an interesting group dynamic in a spin-off. This could introducea lot more pro heroes,too, taking on a different perspective than students have.
3Spinner
The Voice Of Heteromorphs Left Behind
As one of the last surviving members of the League of Villains, who the heroes failed to save, Spinner has only become more interesting and emotionally complex. He was already the narrator of My Hero Academia’s most unique arc, so he could take that role again.
Not only could we get more of his experiences inthe League of Villains, revisiting fan favorites,but we could also see how their legacies are living on in the world after their deaths. We could also get a far more personal look into the world of heteromorph/homomorph relations. Maybe we could even see what impact his book had on that minority.
2International Quirk Stories
Looking At How The Quirk Revolution Happened In New Locations
Because it’s a manga written by a Japanese man in Japan, My Hero Academia takes place in Japan. So we get a good idea as to how quirks developed in Japan and what impact this has had on the rest of the world. But the series does look abroad on occasion, especially with the movies.
These small peeks at other countries tease other quirk structures, other systems for what makes someone a hero or villain. Whether it’s looking at the international cooperation of global pros, or simply a story in this universe but set in another location, a spin-off could make for an interesting comparison to the original setting.
1All-Might
A Prequel About The Man Who Inspired It All
It’s a shame that we never get to see All-Might at the peak of his power, but a spin-off series could remedy that.As an incredibly powerful characterwho has inspired almost every student in the series, it would be very cool to see what all the hype was about.
There are also some questions that this series could answer, such as how All Might and Nana initially met and what their training was like, how All Might and Naomasa Tsukauchi became so close, and what Sir Night Eye was like as a sidekick. What better prequel could there be to honor Midoriya?
