Summary
TheTekkenandFinal Fantasyfanbases are both rather split over Clive Rosfield making it in as the first guest character forTekken 8instead ofFinal Fantasy 7’s Tifa.
Last night was a big one for Tekken 8.Not only did it end up winning Fighting Game of the Year against Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but it also revealed thenext DLC character coming to the game and its first guest fighter overall - Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16. The reveal trailer showed Clive using a mix of his magic (guess it’s before the end of the game then) and sword for combos.
AlthoughClive is one of the most popular Final Fantasy characters in recent memoryand one that has quickly made a name for himself in the series, it’s fair to say he’s not the dream pick that everyone was hoping for. Clive was a fairly obvious pick when it comes to Final Fantasy reps, butalmost everyone has been asking for Tifa to join the series for quite some time now.
Are You Team Tifa Or Team Clive For Tekken 8?
When it was confirmed that Clive was going to be the Final Fantasy rep for Tekken 8, there were one of two reactions. The first, and the camp that I’m in, was joy and excitement, as the Shield of Rosaria looks to have a very interesting moveset, came as a surprise to a lot of players, and represents a less mainstream age of Final Fantasy compared to Final Fantasy 7 reps.
A lot of posts in the Tekken subreddit are asking fans who are disappointed togive one of the series' most emotive and combat-capable characters a chance. That’s because the other camp is absolutely filled with annoyance that Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa, who fans have wanted in Tekken foryears, wasn’t picked instead.
One of the reasons why fans are annoyed about Clive making it in is because he uses swords. While that is a fair complaint for a melee-focused game, it’s rad as heck so I don’t mind myself.
Throughout Reddit and Twitter, both Final Fantasy and Tekken fans haveexpressed alotof disappointment that Tifa isn’t going to be joining Tekken in the near future. It’s not clear why the decision was made, but it only takes a quick look to see how many people were hoping andpraying for Cloud’s canon match.
While it’s possible that Tifacouldend up making it into Tekken in the future, it does seem rather unlikely for now. That leaves Clive and his release later in December as a bit of a sore point for some fans, but there’s always the next guest character for everyone to get riled up about. Here’s hoping it’s not Rick from The Walking Dead.
