By this time next year, hopefully — seriously, we mean hopefully — we’ll all be playingGrand Theft Auto 6. That’s because,despite the lack of a second trailer,Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track to launch next fall. Like we said, hopefully.
When it does launch, we know that thePlayStation 5andXbox Series Xwill surely be able to runRockstar’slatest entry inthe iconic open-world franchise. But what about theSeries S,Microsoft’sless powerful entry-level next-generation console?
Well, there’s no need to be worried. Don’t take it from us, though, Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s CEO, isn’t concerned about things.
The Series S Will Have GTA 6
As part of Take-Two’s latest earnings call, Zelnick was asked specifically about the Series S and its ability to run GTA 6, seeing as it’s a lower-spec console and GTA 6 will presumably push any piece of hardware to its limit. Here’s what he had to say:
Yeah. Look, we support the platforms where the consumers are for as long as they’re there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech. Our labels are really good at that. I’m not really worried.
I’ve never worried about where hardware was going. And I’ve said this many times over the years because, first of all, I don’t worry about things over which I have zero control. And secondly, because I do believe in the audience. The audience is going to show up if you have great properties, and so we just have to make sure to be on an array of platforms.
In other words, Rockstar will find a way to make GTA 6 run on the Series S, even in a potentially diminished state. He added, “So the bottom line is we are selective about which platforms we support. We make the tech work when we can make it work, as long as the audience is big enough to make that worthwhile.”
Indeed, the audience on the Series S is large enough to make that effort worth it. A year ago,IGN reported that 74.8% of Xbox Series owners globally owned an S. That number has largely evened out, but there is still a significant audience on the S and buying the console, making it worthwhile to find a way to make everything run as intended.
