It’s Been Several Months

When Suicide Squad originally launched in late January,it was confirmed to require an internet connection to play, even for single-player gamers. That made the gamenot too dissimilar from other always-online titles like The Crew. That said, Rocksteady assured fans that a fix would come at some point.

In its FAQ, the studio wrote:

However, an offline story mode will be added this year, giving players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection. More details will be provided at a later date.

However, three full seasons in, plus multiple mid-season updates, and the feature has not been added. “Really think there’s no chance at this point,“one player lamented on Reddit.

Why It Matters

Even though Suicide Squad was largely a miss, an offline mode is still an important function, particularly for game preservation. Earlier this year, gamers saw first-hand what can happen to an always-online game the moment servers are shut off. In the case ofThe Crew, the game was rendered inaccessible altogether.

The move drew ire from the larger gaming world, and in its wake,Ubisoft has announced it is working on offline modes for The Crew 2 and Crew Motorfest to prevent future backlash. To this point,Rocksteady has not commented on whether Suicide Squad will continue to receive post-launch supportafter Season 4 of its Year One roadmap is added. “We are not yet discussing anything that is not announced,“a spokesperson told IGN when asked if the game will see long-term support.

In other words, the game could see its support end relatively soon. And should the servers go offline, then, just like The Crew, the game will be inaccessible unless an offline mode is added. Only time will tell what path Rocksteady decides to take, but with seven weeks remaining in the year, things are looking dicey.
