Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Review Round-Up

Sonic the Hedgehog 3hits cinemas this weekend and a lucky few people have already been afforded the chance to see the threequel early so they can tell the rest of the world whether it’s any good or not. Reviews for Sonic 3 are now live with various sites and outlets sharing their thoughts and scores, and it seems the third movie in the series is as good, if not better, than the two that have come before it.

Jim Carrey has received a lot of praise from some of Sonic 3’s early reviewers, perhaps unsurprisingly since the Hollywood veteran plays two characters in the latest movie as opposed to just one.GamesRadarwrites that Carrey “steals the movie as two Robotniks”. It also praises Ben Schwartz for being consistently funny as Sonic, something that has been a common thread throughout the trilogy, but adds Keanu Reeves' Shadow is wasted, disappointing to hear as this movie willbring the curtain down on the Year of Shadow.

Polygonalso showered Carrey with praise for his performance as both Ivo Robotnik and the character’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. Amazed that Carrey has never been asked to play two roles in the same movie before, Polygon astutely points out that Carrey is pulling off a double performance while largely being in a room all by himself. Even when not talking to himself, most of the other characters he shares a screen with are added in post.

The Sonic 3 Reviews Are In

Sounds Like More Of The Same In The Best Possible Way

Not many of Sonic 3’s reviews have been given a firm score which might be whyit doesn’t yet have a rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, some of the sites that have scored the film at this stage -IGN, GamesRadar, andThe Guardianamong them - have all given Sonic 3 three out of five. That might not seem very promising, but it would be in keeping with the scores awarded to the two movies to have come before it which both settled at less than 70 percent on the Tomatometer.

GamingBibleclaims Sonic 3 is the best entry so far in the Sonic cinematic series, and it seems likely that even though some people who had the chance to see it earlier are lukewarm on what it has to offer, if you liked the first two movies, and you like Sonic, you’re going to enjoy this film. It seems almost inevitable that there’s more to come too with reviews seemingly confirmingthe leaked end credits scene teasing what’s nextis probably the real deal.
