Summary

With a little more than a week to go untilSonic 3hits cinemas, Sega and Paramount have cranked up promotion for the threequel. That included 12 hours of Sonic-themed giveaways throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening with the prizes up for grabs including plushes, t-shirts, and a very ugly Christmas sweater to remind us of just how far we’ve come.

Donning a Christmas-themed sweater that isn’t aesthetically pleasing has become a holiday tradition, but I can’t imagine you’ve ever seen one quite as ugly as this. Appropriately dubbed the Ugly Sonic Sweater, included in Paramount’s promotional giveaways was a jumper that features the original design for the movie version of the Blue Blur.

For those who have forgotten the Ugly Sonic saga, and if your brain has intentionally erased it from your memory then lucky you, before the hedgehog’s big screen debut,a trailer revealed to the world what a CGI Sonic in live-actionwould look like. Simply put, it was terrible. So terrible, and the backlash to it so vociferous, that Paramount delayed the movie’s release so that Sonic’s design could be overhauled, the end result being one that was far more palatable since it actually looks like Sonic.

Ugly Sonic Is Back In Ugly Christmas Sweater Form

A Nightmare Before Christmas

Five years later, it’s nice to see Paramount can poke fun at itself and the Sonic design that almost derailed the adaptation before it had even been released. The reveal of the sweater even includes footage from the original version of the movie, acting as an unwelcome reminder that the OG design for Sonic’s hands was almost as bad as his face. The sweater reveal has been paired with Donut Lord seeing Sonic for the first time, screaming before shooting the original’s design with a tranquilizer dart.

As for the sweater, it’s not only the big old image of the original movie Sonic’s face that makes it ugly. The color scheme and the incorporation of what appear to be Ugly Sonic silhouettes stretching really add to this being one of the worst holiday jumpers ever created.

Even before the trailer debuted in 2019,glimpses of Sonic’s legshad fans fearing the worst as the sneak peeks suggested Paramount had made the hedgehog look far too human,

Unfortunately, if you’re only just learning about this jumper’s existence, you have already missed out on your chance to win it.Paramount’s 12 hours of giveawayshas already come to an end, which means the lucky owner of what appears to be a one-of-a-kind Ugly Sonic Christmas jumper has already been determined. The same goes for the chili dog-flavored candy canes. Yes, they really were a prize and I’m going to need the winner to send me one if they see this. I have to know what they taste like.
