TheSonicseries is getting another racing game. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds was just revealed with a short cinematic trailer atThe Game Awards, coming to all platforms.
This is the first Sonic racing game since Team Sonic Racing, which launched in 2019. We don’t know when Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will be with us, but if it’s part of the annual Sonic releases we’ve been getting in recent years, then it could be a 2025 launch.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is coming to all platforms, no release date revealed
The trailer doesn’t give us much, just teasing the fact that the game exists. However, it’s interesting that Shadow stars in the teaser, not Sonic himself, something we definitely wouldn’t have gotten before the Year of Shadow in 2024.
True to its name, this has been a great year for Shadow fans. The upcoming movie,Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is introducing him to the cinematic universe. We also gotSonic X Shadow Generations, a remaster of the original game which also included a completely new Shadow-centric campaign.
If we’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel (which we have to - the trailer gave usnothing) then we can take a look at the game title. The name “CrossWorlds” could mean that, once again, this Sonic racing game will feature characters from other properties, or more specifically, other Sega series. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed did this before Team Sonic Racing just focussed on the Blue Blur and friends.
The Game Awards have wrapped up now, but it’s been a jam-packed show. It kicked off witha cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, confirming that Ciri will be the protagonist. We also got the reveal thatOkami 2 is in development, almost 20 years since the first game.
The Game Awards didn’t nominate Sonic X Shadow Generations in a single category. It was a contender for the Players' Voice award but dropped out in the first round of voting.
In the final moments of the show,Astro Bot took home the award for Game of the Year. For the prize, it fended off competition from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and more.
