Summary

The Game Awardsare upon us again, which can only mean one thing: we’re in for a nasty race in the Players' Voice category. This is the only category which is 100 percent decided by fans, so the candidates aren’t massively thinned out by a jury first. Naturally, this lends itself nicely to fandom wars online, as everyone races to get their favourite game in the top spot.

In 2022, this led to abitter war between Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact.Sonic fans already felt slighted over Frontiers not making it in any other main categories and saw Players' Voice as their chance to rectify that. However, the Blue Blur was no match for Genshin, and it still managed to win, although not afteraccusations of briberywere thrown around.

Now, two years on, and not much has changed from 2022. Yet again,Elden Ring is up for Game of the Year, and yet again, a popular Sonic game has failed to secure any nominations in the major categories. So, Sonic fans are turning to the category to try and make sure that Sonic X Shadow Generations takes home at least one award - even if it means going up against an old rival.

Sonic X Shadow Generations Is Up Against Genshin Impact At The Game Awards

…and, well, a few other games too

When thePlayers' Voice nominees games were announced yesterday, fans quickly began to mobilise, bigging up their personal favourites. So far, we’re seeing a lot of people in the replies supporting Sonic X Shadow Generations, which isn’t surprising, since it was very well received when it launched in October.

But of course, it immediately brings back memories of the Sonic vs. Genshin war in 2022. Hopefully, Sonic fans will take ita little better this yearif Sonic X Shadow Generations doesn’t make the cut, especially since there’s some very fierce competition this year.

There are a few other notable options that didn’t get many nominations in other categories. With Stellar Blade, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Persona 3 Reload, and many more, there are plenty of games with large and passionate fanbases that are also contenders in this race. We’ll have to wait and see which one takes home the prize as voting continues.
