Summary
Sonic the Hedgehog 3is off to a great start, stealing the top spot from Mufasa: The Lion King in its opening weekend over in the US. Now, fans are celebrating this success - by gloating inDisney’s replies.
Better yet, whoever runs the social media for Disney Studios has clearly had enough, because they’re trying to hide all of these replies. If you check out the hidden replies to any tweet about Mufasa, they’re full of people dunking on the movie, spamming pictures of Shadow, sharing memes, or even just screaming the lyrics to Live & Learn by Crush 40.
Sonic 3 Beats Mufasa, Fans Annoy Disney
Disney repeatedly told to “live and learn” from this loss
As many have spotted online, the hidden replies are almost exclusively full of Sonic-posting and dunking on Mufasa. However, it seems to have gotten out of control now, as many of the unhidden replies are also boasting about Sonic 3’s success.
This isn’t too surprising. The Sonic fanbase is a passionate bunch, even more so when we get a win. There was adesperate bid to get Sonic Frontiers the Players' Voice prize at The Game Awardswhen that game impressed both critics and fans. Then, there was widespread joy afterSonic X Shadow Generations launched to even more positive reviews across the board.
In Sonic 3’s case, it’s also a surprisingly faithful adaptation of what is largely considered the best game in the series, Sonic Adventure 2. And considering fans have been desperate for both more Shadow and something Sonic Adventure-related, it’s no surprise that they’re eager to boast about Sonic 3’s success. I just hope that Disney’s social media manager doesn’t have too much of a headache.
We’ll have to wait and see how Sonic 3 performs once the dust settles, but right now, it looks like Paramount is feeling good about its chances. Before it even opened in theatres,it confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is happening. And if you’ve seen the mid-credits scene, you’ll know exactly what direction it’s taking.
