Summary
Yesterday,Warner Bros. released a new Minecraft trailer, revealing how Steve (played by Jack Black) got trapped in the Overworld.
As an adult, he ventured into a mineshaft and found a strange blue cube which opened a portal, transporting him to Mojang’s infinite, blocky world. But look closely at said cube and you’ll see some familiar runes.
It’s covered in the Standard Galactic Alphabet, AKA the symbols you see on the Enchanting Table. In mere hours, Reddit user tokaygecko2 translated them, revealing that they spell out a cryptic clue: Iron Gold Stone Gate Head Home.
The alphabet is used in a few games, but it was created by Tom Hall for Keen 1: Marooned on Mars in 1990
What Does It Mean?
What this seemingly random string of words actually means is up for debate, but a popular suggestion from BuckeyeBrute is that it’s a step-by-step guide on how to get home
“Iron to mine diamonds. Gold for the inevitable piglin trading scene to get Ender Pearls, stone is the obsidian to get to the Nether, gate is the End Portal, and head home after you fight the dragon?”
Although, obsidian is a glass, so stone might simply refer to the End Portal frame.
It’s a compelling theory, since the ‘aim’ ofMinecraftis to find and killthe Ender Dragon. It’s how you roll credits — everything after is literally the ‘End’ game. So, if the theory is right, to get home, they must beat Minecraft. It’s pretty simple, but when adapting an open-ended sandbox game, simple seems a safe bet.
