As one myself, I can say that the Sly Cooper fanbase is one of PlayStation’smost starving alongside Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, and LittleBigPlanet. Ignoring the fact that PlayStation has atonof series under its belt that it refuses to use, Sly Cooper fans have at least been thrown a lifeline recently with the addition of the first game to the PlayStation Store.
Previously locked to the unbelievably expensive Sly Trilogy on PS3,Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus being added to the PlayStation Storewas a big moment for fans.It also sold surprisingly well, which led to rumours that the rest of the original trilogy would make their way to PS4 and PS5. It seems those rumours were actually true.
Sly 2 And 3 Are Coming To PS4 And PS5 Next Month
Earlier today,the PlayStation Blog did its usual business and revealed December’s monthly PlayStation Plus games, which include It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and TemTem. Those are great and all, but the Blog revealed something far more exciting - Sly 2 and Sly 3 are coming to the Classics Catalogue.
Starting on December 10, PlayStation Plus Premium members will be able to play Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (the best one, hands down), and Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, which are all joining the Classics Catalogue. For anyone like me who instantly worried about that PlayStation Plus Premium point, the games will also likely be made available for purchase separately.
It sadly seems that Sly 2 and Sly 3 will be based on the original PS2 releases instead of the enhanced PS3 versions. We’ll take it, though.
PlayStation hasn’t revealed any more details on what kind of enhancements will come with the PS Plus versions of these games,but it’ll likely be very similar to the first Sly Cooper and other PS2 games. You can expect to see a rewind feature, saving from anywhere, and more in the PS4 and PS5 versions of Sly 2 and 3.
Considering how long Sly Cooper has been in the shadows since Thieves in Time, it is a positive step to see PlayStation embrace him a bit more and open his games up to a wider audience. Here’s hoping that the second and third games sell as well as the firstso we’re lined up nicely for a brand-new entry.
