Summary

One eagle-eyedSilent Hill 2 Remakefan has spotted a fun little Easter Egg to the reprintedMTGcard Masahiro Ito did the art for.

For context, the recently released Duskmourn: House of Horrors set included a reprinted Damnation, designed by Ito himself. It depicts an ungainly, fleshy moth abomination known as Valgavoth, perfectly in keeping with Ito’s unsettling art style.

As Reddit user Deus-Ex-MJ points out, in the Silent Hill 2 remake, you can find a book in the Woodside Apartments titled “The New Damnation”. They speculate that this is a reference to Ito’s work on MTG, rather than a nod toJames Sunderland being trapped in purgatoryas they, and no doubt several others, originally thought.

Damnation’s Flavour Text Even Sounds Like Silent Hill

Valgavoth doesn’t look like a Silent Hill monster, per se, but the Damnation card’s flavour text does sound a lot like that restless town.

It reads: “Bound to a single house, Valgavoth simply expanded its boundaries until it consumed the plane, turning a vibrant world into his playground of terror.”

A once peaceful and idyllic home being twisted into a realm of torment and suffering, plagued by monsters, certainly sounds like Silent Hill. So, it’s especially fitting that the new remake would reference this unique card. Now all we need is a Universes Beyond crossover, eh?
