Summary
Eagle-eyed (or would that be eagle-eared?)Silent Hill 2fans have found a new easter egg that seems to support the remake’s recently-discovered time loop theory.
When it was first revealed thatBloober Team was going to be remaking one of the most beloved cult classicsurvival horror games,Silent Hill 2,it’s fair to say that it caused a lot of upset. The Bloober of it all aside,a lot of fans thought that Silent Hill 2 was too perfect to be touchedand that any developer handling it would have their work cut out for them in bringing it back successfully.
Lo and behold, that’s actually what Bloober Team managed to do, as Silent Hill 2’s remake is generally considered to be a great revival for such an icon of the genre. Not only did the studio bring James Sunderland back, but they also added a very interestingeaster egg that suggests it’s actually more of a sequel than a remake.
Silent Hill 2 Morse Code Easter Egg Supports Time Loop Theory
The easter egg in question is a bunch of Polaroid photos that are scattered around the remake, which one genius fan realised was spelling out a message - “You’ve been here for two decades”. This suggests that James Sunderland has been trapped in Silent Hill since the original version of the game released, or at the very least it’s a message to fans that they themselves are in a loop.
This is hinted at throughout Silent Hill 2’s remake, including in a new easter egg that was just uncovered. As highlighted by AestheticGamer on Twitter, YouTuberShiba discovered that several TV sets in Brookhaven hospital are quietly playing morse code to the player. Although it’s drowned out by the sound of static, if you listen closely you can decipher the message.
Or rather, as someone who doesn’t know Morse code, I’ll have to rely on Shiba to translate it for everyone. According to them, the message that’s being played by the TV reads, “Again and Again and Again”. This will play on a loop for as long as you listen to it, and the meaning behind it is pretty obvious.
The Morse code is clearly referencing the same time loop theory that the Polaroid photos spelt out for us, with it hinting that James has been trapped in Silent Hill and repeating the same events “Again and Again and Again”. It’s a very clever easter egg that only really worksthanks to Redditor DaleRobinson’s original discovery.
