Summary
TheNintendo Switchlaunched in 2017 and has become the home to a massive library of unique and ambitious titles. From open-world adventures to strategy games and everything in between, there was something for everyone on the hybrid console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled on July 23, 2025, and while we don’t know much about it yet, there is a guarantee that some of the company’s most iconic franchises will appear on it eventually. This new hardware has a ton of potential, and we’d love to see these sequels take full advantage of it.
10Astral Chain 2
A Link Between Consoles
Astral Chain is anunderrated Switch exclusive developed by Platinum Games, the studio behind beloved character-action titles like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Featuring satisfying gameplay, likable characters, and a rich narrative, it would be a shame if Nintendo decided not to revisit one of its most interesting Switch games.
Set in the year 2078, you play as a police officer trying to save the world from an apocalyptic invasion with the help of a powerful being known as a Legion. A sequel could improve on the foundation of the original and hopefully provide another opportunity for the IP to link up with new players.
9Paper Mario
Time To Turn The Page
The last original Paper Mario was Origami King, which launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2020 and continued to divide the fan base with its decision to move away from the RPG mechanics that made its predecessors so beloved. It’s about time for another chapter in the series, and there’s more than a glimmer of hope that a new entry could return to its roots.
Since Origami King, the other Mario RPGs have found a home on the Switch via remasters or sequels and have reminded people why they fell in love with these games in the first place. It would be great to see old staples like turn-based combat and unique party members return to the fold, but it will be hard to believe until we see it.
8Pokemon Snap
Look At These Photographs
The original Pokemon Snap launched on the N64 in 1999 and required you tocapture your favorite creatures in their natural habitats with a camerainstead of the usual Poke Ball. Over two decades later, it finally received a sequel on the Switch, known as New Pokemon Snap, that impressed longtime fans with its immersive environments and replayability.
New Pokemon Snap did a great job modernizing aspects of the cult-classic N64 game for new audiences, but it still feels like there is so much untouched potential with this spin-off series. A sequel could feature even more Pokemon to find and areas to explore, and could even feature something like online leaderboards to compel you to replay stages for better scores.
7Luigi’s Mansion 4
The Haunting Of Luigi’s House
It won’t be surprising when an avalanche of Mario games arrives on the Nintendo Switch 2, but his brother, Luigi, deserves a chance in the spotlight at least once every console generation. The Luigi’s Mansion series began on the GameCube and has gotten better with every new entry, with many praising Luigi’s Mansion 3 for the Switch as one of the best titles on the console.
It’s always a delight to watch the cowardly Luigi face all of his fears at once whenever he receives an invitation to a mysterious manor, and his next adventure could take him a step closer to reaching his breaking point. It would be fantastic to see the next Luigi’s Mansion borrow ideas from games like Silent Hill 2 or Alan Wake to explore Luigi’s psyche, but another silly adventure inside a creepy hotel would also work.
6Fire Emblem
A New Game Is The Best Strategy
The Nintendo Switch was fortunate enough to receivetwo spectacular Fire Emblem games during its lifespan. While Fire Emblem: Engage focused on gameplay and Fire Emblem: Three Houses focused on social elements and story, it would be nice to see a new game bring all three components together to satisfy the entire fan base.
Fire Emblem’s popularity seems like it’s always rising, but the series still hasn’t entered the zeitgeist the same way Animal Crossing and Splatoon have. Each new entry brings something different to the table, but it might be best for Intelligent Systems to take everything people love about the series and focus on refining those aspects to create something for everyone to enjoy.
5WarioWare
A Bigger Console Needs Micro-Games
Every piece of Nintendo hardware uses special gimmicks or ideas (like the infrared sensor on your Joy-Con or HD Rumble) that seem cool until you realize barely any games are utilizing them. The WarioWare series excels at using every aspect of your hardware to create silly micro-games and situations, and it would be a travesty if there wasn’t one to show off all the ideas behind the Nintendo Switch 2.
Though we don’t know much about what the Switch 2 is capable of, rumors of the Joy-Con being able to turn into a mouse and other potentially interesting concepts could pave the way for another hilarious WarioWare. An online multiplayer mode that allows you to compete against strangers would be a great addition to the already wonderful series.
4Pokemon: Let’s Go
Let’s Go To Johto!
Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee were surprising remakes of the original Game Boy games that used the capturing mechanics from Pokemon Go to make it more accessible for younger players. They excelled at recreating iconic moments from Red, Blue, and Yellow while also introducing new mechanics and ideas to surprise returning Pokemon trainers.
There are going to be a ton of Pokemon games and sequels on the Nintendo Switch 2, but it would be great if Nintendo revisited the Let’s Go branding to reintroduce Johto to a new era of players. Pokemon Gold and Silver are often hailed as the best games in the main series, and it would be great to have a chance to explore the region again with a Togepi or Marill by your side.
3Super Smash Bros.
Back To Basics
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a massive game that celebrates the series’ long history by including every single character that’s ever appeared in a previous roster and a plethora of new fighters to master. It would be almost impossible to include more content than what was available in Ultimate, so maybe the best step forward for a sequel is to bring Super Smash Bros. back to its roots with a fresh start.
Instead of including almost 90 characters from across the entire industry, a new Super Smash Bros. could focus on a tighter roster to make balancing easier and so the developers can work on bringing back a story mode or something different. It’s great that Ultimate exists as a nod to the past, but the next entry should move forward to keep the concept exciting.
2Animal Crossing
The Animals Are Back In Town
There is typically a large gap between mainline Animal Crossing games, but after the explosive success of New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch, it wouldn’t be surprising if a sequel arrived within the first couple of years of the Nintendo Switch 2. While the formula is nearly perfect, it would be nice to see a new entry with even more neighbors to meet and daily activities to keep you busy.
It would be interesting to see if Nintendo continues using an island for your home or if they’ll relocate you to somewhere bigger with even more outlets for creativity and fun. The lack of support for New Horizons was disappointing, but hopefully, that means a new neighborhood is waiting for us sooner rather than later.
1Super Mario
Time To Shine
Super Mario Odyssey launched on the Switch in 2017 and is still the only full-length 3D adventure starring the plumber on the console, except for the magnificent but bite-sized Bowser’s Fury. While older Switch games like Splatoon 2 and Breath of the Wild received sequels after they came out in 2017, Odyssey cemented itself as the go-to title for Nintendo’s mascot.
It’s hard to predict whether the Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a direct sequel to Odyssey or something completely different, but it’s been a long enough wait that whatever ends up happening should feel exciting when it’s announced. Whether Mario is exploring new areas in familiar locations or visiting somewhere beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, it should be another timeless adventure worth playing over and over again.
