Summary
Sega revealedit will be delisting a lot of its games next month, sparking rumors that either a collection of some sort is on the way or it will be providing a major update on its promised revivals of classic series before the end of the year. Those rumors were fueled over the weekend as the iconic studio revealed its Sega Classics range, a merch collection that features a lot of the games that will be disappearing from storefronts on December 6.
Sega took to Twitter to reveal its new merch, and even though there are a lot of games represented in the images, they don’t do it justice. There are a lot of classic Sega games in the collection from Golden Axe to Alex Kidd toCrazy Taxi. All examples of games that will be leaving Steam and the Xbox Games Store next month along with so many more titles that are a part of the new Sega Classics collection.
The replies to the collection’s reveal can be split into two categories - questions about games missing from it, and questions asking why Sega would release merch for games the day after it revealed those games are being delisted. Speculation immediately after the delisting news broke was that Sega has something to say aboutits Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio rebootscoming in December. That the two games now have their own merch but will soon be unavailable to buy has only solidified those beliefs.
Sega Classics Includes Merch Dedicated To Some Of The Studio’s Biggest Games
Games That Might Be Getting Their Reboots Sooner Rather Than Later
As for some of the games missing from the Sega Classics collection,if you want something Shenmue-themed then you’ll need to head to Insert Coin. As for Virtua Fighter, its absence from the range is a little more surprising when it was confirmed last week thata new installment in the series is in the works. As for what you may get from the collection rather than what you can’t, there’s a Golden Axe hoodie, an Altered Beast tank top, and a whole heck of a lot more.
Crazy Taxi T-Shirt
The Sega Classics collection includes merch featuring some of the studio’s biggest and most popular creations, so of course that includes Crazy Taxi. Sega’s Crazy Taxi t-shirt has the image from the game’s cover are on the chest and is available in a lot of different color options.
Golden Axe Sweatshirt
Sega has launched something it has dubbed the Classics collection which is made up of clothes sporting images and logos from some of its best-loved games. This sweatshirt is an homage to Golden Axe, responsible for a trilogy in the early 1990s that had people flocking to the Sega Genesis.
Jet Set Radio Hoodie
Sega has paid homage to some of its greatest games and series by releasing a Classics line of merchandise dedicated to them. Jet Set Radio is a part of the range, and one of the items in the collection features its lead character and logo on a hoodie available in a range of colors.
The biggest absence from the collection is the biggest Sega property of all,Sonic the Hedgehog. There’s nothing secret or sinister behind that omission, though. Sonic is just so much bigger than anything else Sega has ever done. The Blue Blur does his own thing, and most recently on the merch front, that thing wasa collection dedicated to Sonic Adventure, part of a growing homage to the Dreamcast at Limited Run Games.
