As pointed out byReddit user beeperbeeper5, it lists PS3 emulation under the “Dreaming about” tab. Specifically, “Researching and prototyping the possibility of a PlayStation 3 emulator package”.
This isn’t confirmation of anything, but it at least shows that the developer who brought games like Fear Effect, The Legend of Dragoon, and several iconicStar Warsclassics to current-gen (as reported byTime Extension) is interested in doing the same for the PS3 generation.
There are a lot of brilliant games that can only be played if you have the original console and disc, or via streaming, whether that’s theKillzonetrilogy,Demon’s Souls,Infamous, or the manyRatchet & Clanksequels. Such a dream could finally make them accessible to a new generation of gamers.
Sony Has Been Working On PS3 Emulation Already, According To Earlier Reports
Interestingly, this might not be such a far-fetched idea. Industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed last year thatSony had been working on PS3 emulation for “quite some time”. When he made this claim back in June, he thought that Sony would have already announced it by then. However, just over six months later, nothing has been revealed.
Perhaps that will change in 2025. For now, Sony has beenramping up its ports of iconic PS1, PS2, and PSP games, fromSly Cooperto Daxter and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. The Sly games are evenamong the highest-rated games on the PS Store. There’s clearly a hunger for more classic games to return, and the PS3 isfullof them.
