Summary

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is an interesting case. It was justnominated for Mobile Game Of The YearatThe Game Awards, and it’s performing well, taking over$12 million in its first four days. However, general sentiment around the title is mixed. The battling meta isseverely skewed towards Pikachu ex and Mewtwo ex decks, going firstis seen as an instant loss, trading is coming next year, but it’s limited, and themicrotransactions have been called a rip-off. It’s not a bad game by any means; it just needs work.

The latest bone of contention is now bubbling to the surface and revolves around the game’sPremium Passand how little it offers, with fans already calling for a revamp.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket “Desperately Needs More Value”

Over the past few days, multiple complaints have arisen about Pokemon TCG Pocket’s premium pass, the first of which pertains to its value offering.

For $9.99, players get one bonus pack a day, a handful of extra missions, and some special items and cards. On paper, that’s fine value, as the packs alone more than cover its costs, but the way that value is given to players hasn’t been well received.

“The way it’s implemented doesn’tfeelgood being tied to a 24-hour timer. In my head, it would be better to just log in for that day and a big pop-up that says, ‘For being a premium user, here is your daily free pack!,“SilentWitchysaid onReddit. Anotheradded, “Day-to-day, the extra pack doesn’t feel very rewarding. Just this morning, I opened both packs and didn’t get a single new card. It’s a bit of a letdown. Even though I know I would get 30 extra packs over the course of a month, the daily experience of opening that extra pack just doesn’t do it for me.”

The way it’s implemented doesn’tfeelgood being tied to a 24-hour timer.

The pass’s implementation leads onto its second complaint, it doesn’t give you much to do, and the game’s progression “sucks.”

Over on Reddit, user ArturBotarellisaid, “The extra booster a day makes sense financially, but the reason it is disappointing is that it doesn’t give you anything new to do. This is made worse by the fact that the progression in this game is very flawed.”

They compared the game to Marvel Snap, saying, “Even at launch, there were multiple variants and effects, and a competitive ladder that resets every season. Nearly every aspect of this game is worse by comparison, which sucks because they really nailed the gameplay, and the meta is varied compared to other card games at launch,” a comparison whichwasn’t necessarily agreed with by the masses.

It’s still early, and there’s plenty of time for the developers to correct things, but for now, the game is certainly lacking. With December on the horizon andTCG Pocket’s new eventsand newpremium Mewtwo cardleaking, things may start to look up.
