Summary
Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’snext expansion, A2Space-Time Smackdown was revealed yesterday, with the set focusing on Generation 4’s Diamond and Pearl.
As part of the reveal trailer, the game’s developers teased a handful of new cards, including Dialga ex and Palkia ex, starters Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, and others that included Pachirisu ex, Leafeon, and Gible.
However, while less than a dozen cards are currently known, out of more than 240, players are already trying to predict the meta and counter the cards they think will feature most prominently.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown Meta Is Already Under The Microscope
The first deck archetype that should be slightly worried isMewtwo ex and Gardevoir, with a new Honchkrow card posing a threat. Like Lumineon, it deals 50 damage to one of your opponent’s Pokemon.
Its use case is very similar to Lumineon, taking down benched Pokemon before they have a chance to reach their potential, only this time, it has the added benefit of hitting Psychic-type Pokemon for extra damage. Of course, this doesn’t apply to benched Pokemon, but if you’re using Honchkrow to attack an active Psychic-type, you’ll reap the rewards.
Another card, Palkia ex, was heavily in the spotlight following its reveal. Its Dimensional Storm attack, which deals 150 damage for four energy, discarding three of them, was the reason for this.
Some players saw it as an opportunity, when combined with the infamous Misty card, toone-hit KO Pokemon like Mewtwo, while others suggested that Mythical Island’s Mew ex wasthe perfect foil, being able to use Dimensional Storm without any of the downsides.
Finally, a card that wasn’t teased during theSpace-Time Smackdowntrailer but was revealed later was the stunning one-star Lucario card. This card has the ability ‘Fighting Coach’, which makes all Fighting-type Pokemon hit for an extra 20 damage.
Kabutops, one of the game’s earliest cards, technically counts as a Fighting-type, and its move Leech Life heals the same amount of HP as damage it deals. Starting with a base attack of 50 and then combining it with two Lucario means that Kabutops could, theoretically, hit and heal for 90 damage each turn. It’s a good spot fromone playeron the game’s subreddit.
There are still a lot of cards to be revealed ahead of Space-Time Smackdown’s launch next week, but one thing is for certain:nothing in the current meta is safe.
