Summary
Pokemonhas been putting special booster packs in McDonald’s Happy Meals around the same time of year for more than a decade, so it was only a matter of time until we got confirmation of what the TCG and the fast food chain were cooking up for their next collab. Turns out this year’s Pokemon x McDonald’s crossover will be themed around the Year of the Dragon, and some of the cards up for grabs have already been revealed.
The first details about the upcoming Pokemon Happy Meals have beenshared by PokeBeach, the same site that confirmed there was another Pokemon/McDonald’s crossover on the horizon back in August. There will be 15 cards to collect, six of them shiny, all of which are cards from previous sets. However, the cards are unique since they will have the same McDonald’s numbering as previous sets given away via Happy Meals, and the shiny cards will use a holo confetti design which is also unique to McDonald’s cards.
While the full list of cards that will be available in this year’s Pokemon Happy Meals can be found below, only five of the designs have been shown off so far. Dragonite is predictably included since it’s the first Pokemon that springs to mind for most people when thinking of Dragon types, and it’s joined by Dragapult, Roaring Moon, Rayquaza, and Charizard. None of them Dragon-types, but they could certainly all pass for dragons so their inclusion kind of makes sense.
Pokemon’s Next McDonald’s Crossover Will Be Year Of The Dragon-Themed
15 Cards To Collect, Here’s A First Look At Five Of Them
There will naturally be some more Dragon-type Pokemon included in the set other than Dragonite to fit the Year of the Dragon theme. Drampa and Hydreigon are in there, as are Koraidon and Miraidon. Smart picks when it comes to those last two with them being the cover stars forPokemon Scarlet & Violet. The newest Pokemon games might have been criticized at launch, butthey’ve sold big numbers since thenand will have been the first Pokemon games for the same kids who want Happy Meals with Pokemon cards in them.
The only thing we don’t know about the next McDonald’s Happy Meal Pokemon cards is when they’ll be here. This latest info has been revealed by McDonald’s France, the same branch of the fast food conglomerate that had some of us thinkingPokemon TCG Pocket might be getting a Big Mac Illustration Rare. The cards will start appearing in France next week, but a US arrival hasn’t been confirmed.
