Summary
Atluscan pretty easily look back on 2024 and call it an excellent year. Not only did the studio release critically-acclaimed and beloved titles likePersona 3 ReloadandShin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, but the cherry on top of the cake was the release ofMetaphor: ReFantazio, whichwon several awards, and couldpotentially start a brand-new series for the developer.
It’s difficult to imagine 2025 being anywhere near as good for Atlus, but it seems as though the studio has some pretty big projects waiting in the wings. In a Japanese outlet called 4Gamer(thanks Persona Central), which releases annual articles with aspirations for various Japanese developers, several high-profile Atlus developers have teased big things are in the works
Persona And Shin Megami Tensei Announcements Teased For 2025
For example, a developer at Atlus called Yosuke Uda tells readers that he’sstill hard at work on Persona 5: The Phantom X, and wants them to continue supporting the studio through 2025, but not just his game, implying more are on the way. Another developer called Shinjiro Takada, who works on the Shin Megami Tensei series, also states that he’s working on a title the studio is “hoping to announce as soon as possible”.
Atsushi Nomura, who works on thePersonaseries, also gave us a pretty vague teaser when asked about his aspirations for 2025. He explains that he is hard at work on a game that will be revealed at “a more appropriate time”, but also asks fans to “stay tuned”, suggesting it’ll be sooner rather than later. Another developer for Persona - Naoya Maeda - also teases that the title will be an “exciting new experience”.
Finally, Persona Team creative producer and chief director Kazuhisa Wada says that 2025 will be a year in which the studio will “carefully steer the helm of several large-scale projects that are on track and staying the course”. He also teases that the “collective mass of these projects is enormous”, and that any missteps could be extremely costly.
One of these massive projects is undoubtedly Persona 6, given thatthe title has been teased multiple times, and it’s been over eight years since Persona 5 was first released in Japan. It’s also been a relatively long time since the initial release of Shin Megami Tensei V, which launched a little over three years ago. We won’t know for sure what these projects are until Atlus finally unveils them, but it sounds as though they’re going to be pretty massive.
