For a lot of people,Hadesis one of the best indie games ever made. It’s a shame that it came up againstThe Last of Us Part 2(a game many would call the greatest triple-A game ever made) atThe Game Awardsin 2020, or it might have been the first bona fide indie to win GOTY, if you care about that sort of thing, whichI’m not ashamed to admit I do. Because of Hades' quality, you might be looking to scratch that itch....

GSC Game World madeStalker 2: Heart of Chornobylin what’s probably the harshest conditions any developer had to work under. With the Russian invasion looming over the developer, they had to not onlydelay the game multiple times, but alsorelocate the base of operationsentirely. The fact that they even launched the game in whatever state is commendable. While the game has had many issues, the developer committed to addressing them, and has already put out three patches till date....

Summary Stalker 2may have (unsurprisingly) had a bit of a bumpy launch, but it’s gone down a treat with fans, and is pretty much everything that people wanted from a sequel. GSC Game World hasalready promised to address some of the more irritating bugs that have plagued launch, but as more people have started to explore the brutal world of Stalker 2, there are some already drawing up wishlists of certain changes they’d like to see....

When I was asked to attend a digital preview from Wargaming, the studio behindWorld of TanksandWorld of Warships, I expected another title along those lines. World of Unmanned Drones, or something like that. Instead, I met Steel Hunters, and just now atThe Game Awards, so have all of you. Steel Hunters is partApex Legends, partHorizon Zero Dawn. I’m not sure how Wargaming would feel about that comparison. Sometimes games of this ilk like to consider themselves searingly original instead of much of a muchness....

Everybody loves to get promoted at work, aside from all the extra responsibility that comes with it. But one time that’s no problem is when video game characters are elevated from mereNPCs to major figuresor even full-on playable characters in subsequent games. Sure, they get more responsibilities, but that’s not your problem. Oftentimes, fan-favorite characters get that magical glow-up from the developers in response to positive reception and/or waves of new fanfic....

Summary Support Gods are a team inSmite 2’s best friends. They’re there not for their own glory, but to prop up their allies, helping them become the best possible versions of themselves. They might all accomplish this in different ways, but that’s the gist of the role. Some Gods do this by effectively acting as Tanks, while others might fulfill a more Healer-style role. Some defy that classification entirely, but still get the job done in a more unique way....

An exhilarating year for the gaming industry, 2015 marked the end of some fan-favorite series while bringing forth a plethora of new intellectual properties (or IPs). Most of these titles were so awe-inspiring that they influenced an entire generation of upcoming games, so much so that the pioneers are still discussed today. As such, it’s hard to fathom that we’re a decade past that extraordinary age upon entering 2025. Even now, it feels baffling to call Rocket League a classic despite its online community still being active today....

Dungeons & Dragons, like any game, has rules. But unlike most games, these rules can be contradictory in spirit. They are necessary for the game to function but can be ignored as necessary as well; carved in stone (or at least written in very official ink), but also open to interpretation, rejection, and reconfiguration. They are the best and worst thing about Dungeons & Dragons. D&D players even have shorthands for overriding the rules, so often is the practice used....

The company hasstatedthat we’ll have definitive news on the Switch successor by the end of the current fiscal year, which is now just two months away. It’s been nearly eight years since the Switch launched, and that’s about as long as console generations last. We’re going to see the Switch 2 soon, and likely be playing on it a few months after that....
