I like the dungeons inMetaphor: ReFantazio. I swear I do. I know some people think they drag, and that first one just keeps on going and going, but I like them. The inclusion of action combat makes them feel breezier than either the Palaces or endless treks through Mementos inPersona 5, which Metaphor basically combines. I like them, and yet I can’t bring myself to do them. The time pressure of deadlines is supposed to make you sort out the dungeons early, then sweep up whatever you have left....

Path of Exile 2is a difficult game, magnitudes harder than its predecessor. Combat requires a lot more tactical thinking, more thought about skill combinations, and a much slower pace in general. While I think there are still some changes that have to be made for PoE2 to reach its full potential, I’m so impressed that Grinding Gear Games was willing to really test and change the ARPG formula. I think the switchover from PoE was always going to be a bit of a shock: I’d become used to clearing maps quickly with a build that has had dozens of hours of thought put into it, and it was obvious that a new game was going to introduce its own learning curve....
