Summary

A former public relations manager at Nintendo of America has predicted the company won’t change the announcement date for the Switch 2 despite recent leaks of the console.

The leaks used to be more dubious, like when we sawstolen prototypes of the Switch 2 from Chinese factories. However, the current round of leaks emerged from theongoing Consumer Electronics Showin Las Vegas. Nintendo accessory makers have been showing off mock-ups of Nintendo’s new console “behind closed doors,” to market their own products.

Nintendo is Unflappable

Yet, there’s been nothing official from Nintendo besides an acknowledgement that it intends to announce its next console sometime before the current financial year ends, i.e. before April 2025. Officially, we don’t know the next console will be a more powerful iteration of the Switch, despite overwhelming unofficial evidence that suggests this is the case.

However, Nintendo isn’t one to be rushed by public sentiment or rumours. According to Krysta Yang who worked in marketing at Nintendo of America for over 14 years, the company isn’t going to change its plans: “As wild as these leaks are, Nintendo is going to stick to their plan,” writes Yang onTwitter. “They have a date in mind and they are not budging no matter what.”

Yang departed the company in 2022 and worked there for the entire marketing cycle of the original Switch, so her opinion is likely based on Nintendo’s established procedures. The exact date Nintendo intends to announce the Switch is unknown, but everyone should probably stop expecting the announcement to be imminent because of the leaks. It will be in the next few months, but there’s no guarantee when.

As for launch titles, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is theonly major release that currently fits the bill, with Game Freak confirming a 2025 release window for the title. There will also likely be a Mario game accompanying the release. For comparison, the original Nintendo Switch launched with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Party 8, among other games.
