Summary
Nothing demonstrates just how hungryNintendofans are for something new from the studio quite like the unexpected success of its Alarmo. The interactive alarm clock released in 2024 has been so popular thatgeneral sale plans needed to be postponed in Japanlast year. Turns out it’s not only Japan where Nintendo fans have been buying the clock in their droves as a general sale postponement has also been rolled out in the UK and Europe.
Like Japan, the Alarmo was supposed to go on general sale in the UK and Europe in mid-January, so anytime now. However, the company announced on social media today that this will no longer be the case. The Alarmo will nownot be available for the general public to buy until mid-March, and until then, only those with an active Nintendo Switch Online subscriptionwill be able to purchase the accessory.
Even after that, it seems sales of the Alarmo will be somewhat limited. In the UK and Ireland, the clock will beexclusively available through the MyNintendo store, while it will be sold through select third-party retailers in other parts of Europe. In Japan, Nintendo used a lottery system at its stores to determine who would be able to buy the limited stock it had of the Alarmo. Unlike the UK and Europe, Nintendo hasn’t clarified when the Alarmo will go on general sale in Japan following the change of plans.
Nintendo Has Postponed Plans For Its Alarmo General Sale In The UK And Europe
More Popular Than Any Of Us Could Have Expected
The Alarmo was mocked a fair bit when it was revealed, not only because it feels like one of many distractions thrown out by Nintendo as the world waits for a Switch 2 reveal, but also because it’s $100 for a clock. As for what that $100 gets you, the clock has a small screen displaying the time and iconic Nintendo characters depending on the theme you choose.
There were five themes based on differentNintendo Switchgames at launch with one more,Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, being added since. There are more themes to come with anAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsupdate already announced. By the time that happens, we might know something official about the Switch 2.
There has been no mention of general sale plans being postponed in the US which means, as of right now, it will still be available to buy in North America without an NSO membership any day now.
Leaks about the next Nintendo console have been hitting left and right for the last couple of weeks with the company feeling compelled to make it known thatnone of what we’ve seen so far is official. That doesn’t mean it’s not accurate though, and you have to think a full Switch 2 reveal will happen any day now, probably without any warning via a tweet out of nowhere that sends us all into meltdown.
