Summary
Mortal Kombat 1’s upcoming Conan the Barbarian DLC pack has added some new hints regarding Floyd, a character who is believed to be hiding in the game as a secret unlockable.
Although Mortal Kombat has characters of every type making up the roster of its many games, there are some very particular subsets, such as cyborgs, gods, humans, and fighters from Outworld. Without a doubt, the most iconic set of characters in the game are the colour-coded ninjas, with Mortal Kombat having a sneaky warrior that’s represented by nearly every colour of the rainbow.
Scorpion is yellow, Sub-Zero is blue, Rain is infamously purple, Ermac is red, Tremor is orange, and the list goes on until you’ve nearly got a full rainbow of bright ninjas. The only colour thatisn’tcurrently represented in Mortal Kombat is pink, although Mortal Kombat 1 seemed to be hinting at changing that many months ago.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Conan Seems To Have Introduced References To Floyd
When Mortal Kombat 1 launched in 2023,dataminer TheThiny discovered that a string of text in the files made reference to a character called Floyd. While thatcouldmean anything, series co-creatorEd Boon previously said that he wanted to add a pink “palette swap” ninjainto the game called Floyd as a not-so-subtle reference to the band Pink Floyd.
Despite that text being uncovered nearly two years ago, Floyd was nowhere to be seen in the game and never popped up. That just changed with the Conan the Barbarian update, though. Although Conan doesn’t launch until next week,YouTuber Super managed to get early access to him, and shared a video of them uncovering a reference to Floyd.
After beating a battle as Conan,a unique pink symbol saying “Floyd” popped up on screen alongside a guitar riffthat is clearly meant to further the idea of him being based on Pink Floyd. Super has no idea how they triggered the prompt to pop up, but it does seem to indicate that the secret fight and character is finally coming to the game.
Floyd being added to Mortal Kombat 1 isespecially interesting when you consider the rumours that Kombat Pack 3 has been cancelled. Hopefully NetherRealm is at least getting the chance to implement one more fun easter egg.
Super wasn’t the only YouTuber to find the reference towards Floyd.TheThiny pointed out that unrooolie also managed to get the prompt to pop up randomly, although it didn’t trigger anything. TheThiny speculates that players will have to perform some kind of action or input a code to get to fight Floyd. For now, we’ll have to wait for the DLC to launch and see what everyone uncovers.
