Summary
Mortal Kombat 1’s cancelled Kombat Pack 3 would have reportedly focused less on guest fighters and included Cassie Cage, Sonya Blade, and Kano, among some other surprises.
Ever since it first released, it’s more than fair to say thatMortal Kombat 1 has had a very rocky ride. While thegameplay and story were largely praised by fans and critics (including me), the"predatory" microtransactions and lack of content left it in a rough place for most of its first year. While things did pick up over time, they came crashing down after the Khaos Reigns expansion.
As great as the new characters are,Khaos Reigns was largely considered a massive step back from Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLCdue to its weak and pointless story. It seems that response led to low sales,as a reliable insider recently claimed that all of the planned DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 has now been cancelled.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Cancelled Kombat Pack 3 Would Have Focused More On MK Fighters
Alongside more story expansions, that cancelled DLC reportedly included a third Kombat Pack, which would have added six more characters to the game.As pointed out by Twitter user thethiny, the leaker who suggested that Warner Bros. had put a stop to Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC, FateUnknown, has now revealed who was going to be included in that pack, alongside sharing some details about the rest of the game’s plans.
According to FateUnknown, Kombat Pack 3 would have focused more on Mortal Kombat characters and featured Cassie Cage, Sonya Blade, Kano, Jade, and Kung-Jin, who have all been rumoured to join the roster for quite some time. The sixth character would have been a guest fighter, although it seems that they weren’t settled on.
The guest fighter would have been a “highly requested” character, which could really mean anyone. Justice for Ash Williams is all I have to say.
Beyond revealing the fighters planned for Kombat Pack 3, FateUnknown also says that NetherRealm Studios really wanted to complete and release the DLC and that the developers aren’t happy about it being cancelled. The low sales figures of Khaos Reigns isn’t the only reason for the DLC being cancelled, but it is one of the big ones.
It seems that’s all we’re going to get out of FateUnknown regarding Mortal Kombat 1,as they also confirmed that they’ll no longer have any leaks about NetherRealm’s games. It’s worth noting that NRS still hasn’t confirmed the leak to be true, although it seems that a lot of people are taking it as fact.
