Metaphor: ReFantaziohas one of the best casts of playable characters in a JRPG for a long while,possibly the best depending on who you ask. There’s a wide range of personalities and almost every one of them is likable in their own way, and Metaphor flexes even harder by having even more great characters that you can only interact with via social bonds.
One such character is Catherina, a spunky bounty hunter who is also vying for a place on the throne in order to help her people, the Paripus. You meet Catherina a lot of times on your journey, and end up in one or two scraps as a result, but her personality and design have made her a fan favorite among Metaphor’s non-playable characters, and many actually wish thatAtlushad made her a fully-fledged party member.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Fans Really Want Catherina To Be A Party Member
Reddit user Hotstuffdesu kicked off the conversationon the Metaphor: ReFantazio subreddit by getting sad at how much it looks as though Catherina has been “left out” of the main party, sat on her little box in Altabury looking kind of sad before the main character shows up. That then brought in quite a few like-minded fans, such as Ale_Ruz_97, who felt even worse after leaving her behind after she helped out in a dungeon.
That then led to many others talking about how much they would have loved to see Catherina become a party member, with users like Spidersteph thinking that she “fits right in with the main party”. Others are a lot harsher towards Atlus for leaving her out, such as user Silver6567, who claims that Catherina is “a waste of an epic character” for her to just be a social bond.
You also have a lot of people joking that Atlus might make her playable a few years down the line, once enough time has passed for the studio to release a super extended version of the game like it’s done withPersona 5 Royal,Persona 3 FES,Persona 4 Golden, and many others. If I have to pay another $60 just to make Catherina a party member, then so be it.
