Summary
Marvel Rivalshas made a serious splash on the live service scene during its first few days, attracting ten million players during its launch weekend. Its reach is already being felt in other games too.You can unlock a Rivals glider to use in Fortnite, and 20 variants based on heroes and villains from the Rivals roster are now available to buy inMarvel Snap.
Snap’s variant designs provide players with different artwork to choose from for cards in their deck. So if you were to buy the new Jeff the Land Shark Rivals card, if you may bear to look at the little guyafter he’s been relentlessly tormenting you for the past week, then when Jeff is played in your next Snap match, it will be his Rivals design that appears. All fun and straightforward until you find out how much these variants cost.
All of the Rivals variants have been categorized as Super Rare which means they cost 1,200 gold each. Gold can be earned through gameplay alone, but since the cards available in the store are cycled, if there’s one you’ve got your eye on, you’re going to want to get it before it’s gone. Particularly the new Rivals variants which may not be around for long, although I’m sure they will return in the future as different card designs leave and come back.
Marvel Snap’s Rivals Variants Are Super Rares
That Means They Cost 1,200 Gold Each
If you don’t have enough gold for the Rivals variants you want, you’ll need to buy some. Since you’ll need at least 1,200 gold to buy a single Rivals variant, that means having to buy 1,450 gold - like most live service games, you’re not able to simply buy as much of the in-game currency as you need in Snap. 1,450 gold will set you back $19.99 which means, if you have no gold and you want a Rivals variant right this second, you’re going to have to spend $20 to get it.
Another way to get Gold in Marvel Snap is by subscribing to the $4.99 Gold Pass. You’ll get 300 gold to get you started and will then be given an additional 50 gold each day. That means it’ll take you 19 days to have saved up enough for one Super Rare variant.
Even though regular Snap players are well aware of how the game’s gold pricing works, as you can see in the replies to the Reddit thread above shared bypidgeonsarehumanstooonthe Snap subreddit, they’re less than pleased about the Rivals prices. Their biggest issue appears to be that the generic background given to the Rivals cards makes them unworthy of being dubbed Super Rares, and that it would have been more fitting to classify them as Rare variants which only cost 700 gold.
