Summary

Marvel Snapis strangely “temporarily unavailable” to play in the United States following yesterday’sTikTokban going live, although Second Dinner promises that it’s working on a fix.

As everyone with a phone knows by now, the United States has had a big problem withTikTok over the past few years due to its supposed risk to national security and concerns over user data collection in China. In 2024, Congress moved to force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell its stake in the app or have it removed altogether across the US.

With ByteDance choosing not to sell its stake in TikTok and the Supreme Court ruling that thelaw doesn’t violate the First Amendment like the company was claiming, TikTok went offline for US users late last night. As strange as the whole situation is, it’s just got a lot weirder thanks to an unsuspecting victim being claimed by the ban - Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Temporarily Impacted By TikTok Ban In The US

That’s right, Second Dinner’s beloved mobile TCG has strangely enough been made temporarily unavailable in the US following TikTok’s ban. The official reasoning behind Snap’s disappearance hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s very likely due to the fact that ByteDance owns the game’s publisher, Nuverse.

The TikTok ban has also resulted in other games published by ByteDance subsidiaries to be taken down temporarily, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, One Punch Man – The Strongest, Mobile Legends: Adventure and Watcher of Realms.

Marvel Snap developer Second Dinner added a message to the game’s start-up screenthat confirms the temporary shutdown is due to the TikTok ban, but that a solution is being worked on.A longer message was shared by the studio over on Twitter, which notes that it wasn’t intentional and that it surprised the team.

Don’t worry, though, as Second Dinner confirmed that “Marvel Snap isn’t going anywhere” and that the developers are actively working on a solution to get the game up “as soon as possible”. More details will be shared once Second Dinner knows its next steps.
