Marvel Rivalshas proven a smash hit with gamers, racking upa whopping 10 million downloads on its launch weekend. There are loads of people diving in for matches,terrorizing healer mains with Iron Fistandthrowing groups of people off of cliffs with Jeff, but a lot of people only recently discovered that certain characters have had boosted stats ever since launch.
Marvel Rivals call these seasonal boosts, as a selection of Vanguard, Dualist, and Strategist characters have boosted stats for the game’s first season. Iron Fist is one such character, getting a 15 percent damage boost, while Venom gets an extra 150 health, and Luna Snow gets a buff to their healing power. It’s a pretty weird system, and most fans aren’t fond of it.
Marvel Rivals Fans Are Calling For Seasonal Buffs To Be Removed
On the Marvel Rivals subreddit earlier this week,a user called CaptainKashupmade a post calling for these seasonal boosts to be scrapped completely, in order to help “preserve the game’s health”. The main argument is that once the boosts for characters like Venom, Hawkeye, and Iron Fist eventually go away, a lot of people are going to be upset because it will feel like their characters have been nerfed across the board.
Another argument is that players will never really be able to gauge whether characters actually need to be nerfed or buffed, with the seasonal boosts making it difficult to determine, and CaptainKashup calls the system an “incomprehensible mechanic that simply shouldn’t be in the game”.
They’re not the only one that shares this opinion either. CaptainKashup’s post is fairly popular (with over 1000 upvotes), while users like HyperViper997 worry about their favorite characters once the boosts are eventually removed. Another user called NivvyMiz says that the whole system is “a ticking time bomb” that’s about to explode into a shower of angry and upset gamers.
Even the people that don’t want the system scrapped are calling for it to be reworked, possibly only to activate the buffs when you’re teamed up with another character to incentivize more coordination between teammates.With no role lock, it would be a pretty clever system, though people will always pick their favorites. Whatever the case, it’s clear that fans think it needs to either be reworked dramatically, or just scrapped completely.
