Marvel Rivalsis a pretty typical hero shooter, having teams of heroes with various powers and abilities working together to stop the other team. It’s pretty simple stuff, but players do need to ensure that teams are nice and balanced to make sure they get anywhere. Have a team full of DPS with no healers or tanks, and you’re almost guaranteed to eat dirt.
Marvel Rivals is in a position in which players have to create their own teams, unrestricted by role limitations. If you want to have nothing but Vanguards on your team, you can do that, but the problem at the moment is that everyone is finding Duelists to be a bit too tempting, as many fans are already sick of throwing games because nobody wants to play as Vanguards or Strategists.

Check out the Marvel Rivals subreddit, and you’ll find a lot of posts complaining about team makeup, with the vast majority annoyed that there’s no limit to how much of a certain role you can have in one team.Reddit user Zackfromspace is one such player, who uses the problem to poke fun at those before launch that didn’t want role queues.
That Reddit thread is filled with players complaining that nobody steps up to be Vanguard or Strategists when the team desperately needs them.Another Reddit thread by user WickedPanboytalks about the game needing some kind of Role Lock system, ensuring there’s at least one role type on each team, and complaints that those who do end up picking support roles often get targeted and have a worse time.
Of course, it’s very early days right nowand the game is very chaotic, so there’s a chance that once things settle down and people play around with the characters they want to, more balanced teams will be more natural. It also doesn’t help that there are currently more Duelists in Marvel Rivals than Vanguard and Strategist characters combined, so with a bit more time and patience, we should start seeing things even out soon.
