Summary

While the original Mafia received a remake in the form of Mafia: Definitive Edition, andMafia 3was released relatively recently (2016), the same can’t be said for Mafia 2. It is modern enough (it was released onXbox 360andPS3) and accessible enough(available on modern hardware) that a true remake isn’t likely in the works, especiallywith The Old Country slated for a 2025 release.

That said, a group of modders took it upon themselves to create the ultimate Mafia 2 experience. Aptly named Mafia 2 Final Cut, the mod expands upon the base game to include new missions, endings, weapons and more.

As first spotted by a content creator, the Final Cut project is an effort by the Night Wolves Team, an upstart group of developers.

And as expanded on by a Mafia YouTuber, the mod is more than just a new coat of paint. For instance, the team recreated a cut location of a betting office, complete with the attire that Vito was shown wearing in concept art.

Elsewhere, travel has been greatly expanded to include the ability to ride trains, taxis and buses to destinations. There is also a feature to purchase vehicles that’s been restored. Meanwhile, melee combat has been updated to include bats. And of course, that’s not to make mention of the new missions, as well as the updated and alternate endings.

In other words, it’s a pretty meaty mod that should make any Mafia fan happy. Unfortunately,it looks like it has been hidden on Nexus Mods so that the “author can update the mod page information.“As of this writing, there is no word on a re-release. Either way, when the mod is fully accessible, it’ll ensure every Mafia game is “definitive.”
