Summary

Some ofSega’s developers behind Jet Set Radio’s reboot have suggested that they’re going to share news regarding the series at some point in 2025 to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary.

Over the past few years, Sega has been showing a lot more interest in its stacked back catalogue of classic games, something that finally came to a head at The Game Awards 2023. After months of rumours and leaks,Sega confirmed that it was working on reboots, remakes, and continuations of some of its missing IP, including Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage.

Alongside Crazy Taxi, the biggest of these projects is Jet Set Radio, which had some gameplay footage briefly shown off during the Power Surge trailer at The Game Awards. Although we know that most of these projects are a few years out, we haven’t heard a single thing about the reboot since, something that might finally be changing in 2025.

Jet Set Radio Veterans Suggest News Is Coming This Year

Earlier this week,Japanese gaming site 4Gamer shared a compilation of comments from developers across a ton of studios, which included some Jet Set Radio veterans who are working on the reboot. As pointed out by Redditor ElecXeron20XX, one of those developers is Jet Set Radio’s director, Masayoshi Kikuchi, who noted that he’s still working on a new game of the series.

Beyond confirming that development is still progressing, Kikuchi notes that 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Jet Set Radio, something that he’s still considering how to celebrate. While Kikuchi doesn’t say it outright, this seems to suggest that some sort of news for the reboot is coming in 2025 for the anniversary, as that seems like the perfect way to celebrate the series.

I’m still working on a new Jet Set Radio game. Incidentally, 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Jet Set Radio, so I’m thinking about how to celebrate it. - Masayoshi Kikuchi

Kikuchi wasn’t the only veteran, though, as Jet Set Radio’s chief graphic designer, Ryuta Ueda confirmed his involvement in the new game, while noting that he hasn’t been fully involved just yet due to the birth of his child. Ueda asks fans to “please look forward to new information” when closing off his statement.

While Ueda and Kikuchi are likely both talking about the Jet Set Radio reboot that we’ve seen footage of and that appears to be the next project in the series,it’s worth noting that a remake of the first game has also been rumoured for some time. It’s not clear if we’ll hear anything more about it before the free-to-play reboot, but here’s hoping.
