Undoubtedly the biggest reveal of the show was whenNaughty Dog finally unveiled its next project, which has been in the works since 2020.
Despite rumours suggesting that it would be a fantasy project, that game turned out to be Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a sci-fi title starring Tati Gabrielle as protagonist Jordan A. Mun as she tries to escape from the dangerous planet called Sempiria. Despite being a hugely-anticipated reveal, it has perhaps unsurprisingly not going down well with some gamers.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Trailer Has Over 34k Dislikes
As of the time of writing,the official reveal trailer for Intergalactic that was uploaded to PlayStation’s YouTube channel has a staggering ratioof 34,000 dislikes to 30,000 likes. The comments section makes it clear why, with fans picking apart several key factors of the trailer, from fair criticisms like the amount of branding to the less substantive complaints about the protagonist.
Let’s start off with the criticisms that are at least a little bit fair - the branding. Throughout the trailer, Intergalactic is shown to have product placement (albeit space-y versions) of Porsche, Sony, and Adidas, who all make appearances throughout the trailer. This has led to some complaints about it being a bit too in-your-face, with one upvoted comment reading, “How many brands do we want in this trailer? Yes”.
Then there are the far less respectable complaints about the game’s protagonist, Jordan, who is an Asian woman with a shaved head. As you’d expect, this has led to claims of Naughty Dog going “woke” and forcing DEI into its game, with many of the comments making fun of Jordan’s appearance and asking if they can play as the anime heroes shown on the TV instead. And yes, there are comparisons to Concord.
The same thing happened when Abby was revealed to be one of The Last of Us Part 2’s protagonists, a game that went on to become one of the highest-rated of all time. We’ll see how Intergalactic fairs, but don’t pay it much mind.
Of course, anyone who has beenkeeping an eye on gaming over the past few years will be familiar with this depressing trendand will have seen it coming as soon as Jordan was shown. It was always going to garner this reaction, although it is a little surprising to see it become such a big part of the conversation already.
