Summary

Back in 2014, Naughty Dog revealed concept art for a cancelledJak & Daxtersequel/reboot, showing a more realistic take on the series.

It didn’t go down too well, with many criticising the approach for deviating too much from past games, which is exactly what Naughty Dog feared when it decided that it was “doing the fans a disservice”.

However, some of those abandoned ideas may finally be resurfacing all these years later in the newly revealedIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. As @eco_mmunity pointed out, the robot featured at the end of the trailer looks strikingly like a robot in the Jak 4 concept art. You can see a side-by-side below.

While not identical, they have very similar silhouettes. If Naughty Dog is looking back at Jak 4 for its new IP, then digging into the old concept art might shed light on what else we can expect.

Steampunk Cities, Grindrails, Enormous Cities, And Aliens

Jak & Daxter started out with a traditional fantasy platformer, The Precursor Legacy, before the duo were propelled into a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future with Jak 2’s Haven City. The third game then took us beyond the drab, grey, and oppressive walls for a Mad Max-inspired affair.

Jak 4 would have taken things even further into the future with enormous, sprawling steampunk cities and a variety of aliens that look ripped right fromStar Wars. Perhaps we’ll see some of these designs updated for Intergalactic, too.

All we’ve seen so far of The Heretic Prophecy is a lone character in their spaceship, laterfighting a robot with what looks like a musical lightsaber. But there might be some details hiding in plan sight in this decade-old concept art. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Intergalactic doesn’t have a release date yet, but fans think that the trailer isteasing a 2027 launch. Hopefully, we’ll find out more soon.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Intergalactic: The Heretic Propher follows Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.
