Your first stop after setting off from home inIndiana Jones And The Great Circleis the Castel Sant’Angelo in Vatican City. While you’re sure to have your hands full sneaking around and avoiding the fascist Blackshirts that have taken control of the ancient citadel, taking the time to explore will pay off.
Toward the end of the castle, you’re able to encounter one of the game’s Mysteries, a puzzle to solve that leads to hidden passages, treasure, or shortcuts. The Bulls Of Blood Mystery gives you an opportunity to sneak out of the fortress with far less risk of a fight.
How To Start The Bulls Of Blood Mystery
Once you make your way into the main structure of the Castel Sant’Angelo, the path will take youpast the Blackshirt barracks. The default path is to sneak into the second floor of the barracks and steal the Captain’s key so that you may reach the roof; you can get some extra money and supplies this way, but it’s obviously a dangerous proposition if you’re already beaten up from previous encounters.
By solving The Bulls Of Blood Mystery, you canbypass the barracks and the captain’s key. Enter the chapel across from the barracks, evading or neutralizing guards as needed. There aretwo doors to the chapel; the one on the right usually has a guard seated by the fireplace, who won’t notice you as long as you’re quiet.
The guard patterns will be different depending on whether you enter the chapel during your first trip to the Castel Sant’Angelo at night, or you return the following day. At night there are a larger number of basic Blackshirts in the chapel, but during the day there are fewer but better-equipped soldiers, including an officer who can use his alarm whistle to summon reinforcements.
Enter the right-hand room andtake Russo’s note from the table. It hints at a secret compartment by a fireplace, starting the Bulls Of Blood Mystery.
How To Solve The Bulls Of Blood Mystery
Once you have Russo’s Note,go to the left-hand room in the chapel, either by cutting through the center room or going outside and around to the other door. Unless you’ve already cleared the chapel of guards,it’s better to go outsideso that you can throw bottles from the nearby crates to distract and separate the guards.
Once the coast is clear, take the card and map from the desk. Now that you have all of the Mystery Notes except for one, look to the right;there are two paintings of bulls near the fireplace.Rotate both of them 180 degreesso that the red bull - the symbol of House Borgia - is on top.
As history buffs andAssassin’s Creedfans know, House Borgia were Spanish nobles who used their wealth and influence to take control of the Vatican in the early 1500s.
Once both paintings are flipped, asecret passage will open between them.Inside is an old letter written by Cesare Borgia in the sixteenth century - the final Mystery Note for this puzzle - and a set of stairs leading to the roof, where a chest containing 80 lire waits as an extra reward.
On the table in the left-hand room of the chapel.
Cesare Borgia’s Letter
Just inside the entrance to the secret passage, on the right.
To the left of the chest is alever that opens a gateleading to a zipline; this bypasses the gate locked by the Captain’s Key, and lets you gostraight to the Bastione San Marco, just a stone’s throw from the meeting point with Antonio near the northwest corner of the citadel.
If you do skip the barracks, remember tocome back later to search the place. The captain’s desk has the Adventure Book forLucky Hat, a skill that can let you recover after losing a fight.
