Key Cards

Koma-World Eater

Koma, World-Eateris the commander of the deck and the main reason to play it. It isvery hard for your opponents to interact with it, as it both can’t be countered and hasward four, making your opponents need four mana to even target it with a removal spell. Thanks to its massive 8/12 stat line, Koma is a massive combat threat as well.

If you give Koma double strike, both instances of combat damage will cause Koma’s effect to trigger, which will give you eight 3/3 Serpent tokens instead of four.

Koma has trample, making it even easier for it to connect with combat damage. Thiswill create four 3/3 tokens, and you’re able to very quickly start flooding the battlefield with these tokens with every attack of Koma. Komadoes cost a lot of mana,so ramp is incredibly importantto ensure Koma hits the battlefield as soon as possible.

Serpent Of Yawning Depths

You want to ensure that Koma, World-Eater connects for combat damage, andSerpent of Yawning Depthsis the most consistent way to do that. While itdoesn’t technically make it unblockable, it makes it so yourSerpents (which Koma and its tokens are) can only be blocked by a very specific set of creature types.

Serpent of Yawning Depth’s ability is one-sided, meaning only you get the benefits from it. If your opponents have those creature types, theirs can still be blocked by any of your creatures, not just the listed typings on Serpent of Yawning Depth.

The strength of Serpent of Yawning Depths ishow uncommon the creatures are that can still block your creatures. While you have a handful of creatures that won’t be affected by Serpent of Yawning Depths, it’s akey to being able to close the game with your tokensas an army of unblockable 3/3s will help get your opponents' life totals lower.

Kindred Discovery

Kindred Discoveryis a staple enchantment of decks thatare built around one creature type. In this case, the Serpent creature type. Kindred Discovery turnsall your triggers of Koma, World-Eater into four cards being drawn. Youneed to make sure you name Serpentwhen Kindred Discovery enters the battlefield.

The benefit of Kindred Discovery isyou also draw a card when the named creature type attacks. After Koma triggers once and you make four tokens, the next turn cycle you’ll have five Serpents to attack with anddraw five cards off the attack trigger, followed by four more cards being drawn when Koma creates more tokens. This gives you a total of nine cards drawn in just one turn cycle.

Helm Of The Host

Koma, World-Eater is the most important card in the deck by a wide margin, sobeing able to make copies of it helps to have multiple copies of it. While there are a few different ways to achieve nonlegendary copies of Koma,Helm of the Hostis far and away the best way to achieve this.

Once on a creature, a token copy will be made at the start of combat. Youalways want to equip Koma with Helm of the Host as quickly as possible. Once you have just one copy of Koma, the game can snowball in your favor once you start triggering Koma’s effect multiple times in one turn.

How To Play The Deck

A Koma, World-Eater Commander deck isall about getting Koma onto the battlefield as quickly as possible andhitting for combat damage. This will start generating tokens to act as attackers and blockers, with your commander handling the ability to set up the battlefield for both offense and defense.

Youwant to always be hitting for combat damage with Koma, so cards that make it unblockable are very important; this is often found on Equipment likeBrotherhood RegaliaandWhispersilk Cloak, and you can get even more triggers of Koma by giving it myriad by havingAuton Soldierenter as a copy of it. In addition, cards that give extra triggers are importantto flood the battlefield quicker such asStrionic Resonator, Lithoform Engine, andFracture Realm. One trigger of Koma is already fantastic, so multiple pushes it over the edge.

While you can only have one copy of a legendary creature on the battlefield, the cards that create copies of Koma will have them enter as nonlegendary copies to verify you don’t lose them to the legend rule right away.

Theprimary win condition of the deck is winning through combat. With how damaging Koma, World-Eater is,taking opponents out with commander damageis very common. In addition, with how many 3/3 tokens you create, you candeal massive outbursts of damage by going wide with creatures. You can also win the game off of infect withTriumph of the Hordes, whichgives all your creatures infectand +1/+1 for the turn.

Thebiggest downside of the deck is the heavy reliance on the commander. Without Koma, World-Eater there isn’t a lot the deck can do, sosetting up before your opponents can is very important. Luckily, thanks to how much protection is on Koma, once you may cast it, odds are you’ll have the extra tools needed to protect it right away. This is done in the way of counterspells, as well as Equipment that makes it impossible to target.
