Developers sometimes dedicate a good portion of their time to implementing alternative game modes that deviate greatly from the title’s main idea.Marvel Rivalshas shown in its debut that it’s no exception to this, as we had a cozy, more casual-friendly event game mode back in Season 0 with Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival.
And they won’t stop there, as we now have another new mode to mess around with in Clash of Dancing Lions, a simple and quick game mode to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the introduction of several new skins, only available for a limited time.
What Is Clash Of Dancing Lions Mode In Marvel Rivals?
Clash of Dancing Lions is a football game mode introduced during theFortune And Colors event. Instead of beating your enemies to death, the goal here is much simpler:Grab the ball and pass it through the opponent’s goal to score. The game is themed after the traditional Chinese Lion Dances.
This is a fast-paced 3v3 game, and it lasts much less than regular matches. Your team mustscore 10 points before the opponent or have a higher score when the timer is over to win. Matches last for up to 4 minutes.
you may pick it from the Play menu, just like other regular game modes. Overwatch veterans will instantly recognize it asMarvel Rivals' take on Lúcioball, a very similar temporary game mode. The game mode will initially be available from January 23 to Jun 05, 2025, but it might return in the future (just like Lúcioball returned from time to time). Playing it isone of the main methods to complete the Fortune and Colors event.
You can only pick one of three different characters:Star-Lord, Iron Fist, and Black Widow. All three must be picked with no repeats. They’re all using their Clashing Lions skins, and have their MVP animations enabled.
Enemies cannot be defeated. Instead, your skills will help you take the ball from them, or give you an edge in carrying it to the goal. Some skills from these characters are unavailable, as they wouldn’t fit the mode at all. Their core mechanics are still intact, though.
Clash Of Dancing Lions Tips And Tricks
Playing this game mode for the first time can be rather confusing. The objective is simple, butmovement can be a bit weird at first. You take the ball by passing through it, and you can shoot it with your Basic Attack button. The Secondary Attack button shoots it longer the more you charge it. Hitting a Skillsteals the ball from enemies.
You must take the ball to the opponent’s goal and pass through it.Shooting the ball won’t score you any pointsas the ball bounces back. Scoring a goal from the sides nets you 1 point, but going through the middle gives you 3 points at once.
Characters play slightly differently from usual, buteach has a given “role”:
Having someone as a dedicated “goalkeeper” isn’t mandatory, butit’s always good to have someone playing at the back. Star-Lord or Iron Fist are the best picks for that, as their teammates can freely attack or steal the ball.
When attacking, kicking the ball forward so you won’t have it stolen is a nice idea, especially if you’re on Black Widow.Passing to a teammate is even better, if you’re able to. Sometimes, finding an opening will be almost impossible, so relying on your teammates will be much better.
Not to sound like a broken record, butshooting the ball at the goal won’t give you any points. On the contrary,it can make things worse for you. This is a simple thing to remember, but can cost you some easy points in the heat of the moment, so be careful.
You need tobe as annoying as you can. Don’t hold on to your skills and try to disrupt the enemy team as much as possible. Just like in regular matches, you can aim your skills at the direction they’re walking to, and not necessarily at them.
Scoring at the center is always the best option, butdon’t lose an easy point aiming for a 3-point goal. Just scoring is more than good enough.
Stalling is also a good strategy. If you have more points, you can take the ball for a walk in the sky with Star-Lord, or use your double jumps with Iron Fist. Just hold on until the four minutes pass. Don’t worry, it’ll be over faster than it seems.
