One thing that the developers ofValoranthave been clear about from the very start is that they won’t try to rush agent releases, which means that you might have to wait quite a while before seeing a new face in your games. Sometimes, the new agent doesn’t quite hit the mark even after this wait.
Thankfully, Tejo isn’t one of these agents as he has some of the most exciting abilities in his kit. While you can see the resemblance of these abilities with other agents, they still have their unique aspects that makes this agent refreshing to play.
Tejo’s Role In Valorant
Before you even think of buying a new agent in Valorant, the first step is to figure out what the agent’s role is and what that means when it comes to their gameplay. There are four roles in the game: Sentinel, Duelist, Controller, and Initiator, witheach having a specific playstyle alongside the flexibility to switchaccording to your preference.
Tejo has beengiven the Initiator role, which is meant to be for the characters who can initiate the battle. While this is important on both sides, Initiators are especially useful when you’re attackingsince you consistently need information on where the enemies could behiding on the site.
While Tejo is useful in that regard, he has so much more to his kit thatmakes him great at all aspectsof the gameplay.
Tejo Abilities, Explained
After learning Tejo’s role and the general playstyle, the next step is to understand his abilities. You’d want to do thiseven if you’re not planning to use the agentsince you’d want to know what hit you when he’s in the enemy team. Here’s everything that Tejo can do:
Guided Salvo
Basic
This is the ability that Tejo gets for free at the start of each round, and they have a 40-second cooldown upon use. While using it, you can selecttwo spots on the map where you want to throw your guided missiles.
Once your missiles reach the spot,they’ll detonate three times in regular intervals, dealing massive damage to anyone within its area.
Stealth Drone
Buyable
Once you buy this ability, it allows you to launch a ground drone that moves at high speed and shows you enemies in its vision. You can also detonate this drone, whichshows the aura of the enemies in its visionto all players and suppresses them.
Special Delivery
This is a simple ability that concusses the enemy it hits after blasting on the impact location. You can either make it blastas soon as it touches a surface or make it bounce once.
Armageddon
Ultimate
As the name suggests, this ability lets you create a giant area on any part of the map. A few seconds after launching the ability, the affected area hasmassive explosions that move from the start point to the end.
Anyone caught in these explosions gets deleted quite fast.
Tips To Play Tejo
Even after learning Tejo’s role and abilities, there arequite a few things that the game doesn’t tell you about him, and it’s important to know these things if you want to play him competitively. These can range from the general tactics to use his abilities to the best agents he can counter.
While Tejo’s abilities might seem simple in theory, you can use them inmany different ways to surprise the enemies in every round, and here are a few tips to help you do that:
Tejo Is Best At Postplant
While Tejo is an Initiator, the only ability that you can use to aid your teammate in entry is the Stealth Drone. While you can use your missiles to clear corners as well,it’s far better to save them for postplantas long as you know that your team can entry. Once you get the plant down, you can make it very difficult for the enemy team to diffuse it.
Firstly, they’ll have to enter the site and clear all the close angles. When they do this and finally get on the spike, you’re able to instantly shoot both your missiles on the spike and force them to move. If you have your Ultimate,you can use it right after that to make it impossible to diffuse in time, giving you the round without even having the enter site.
Use Both Your Missiles Every Time
If you’ve played as Tejo even for a bit, you’ll quickly realize that you can shoottwo missiles in the Guided Salvo ability but you only have one charge for it. This means that even if you only use one of these missiles, it’ll still go on a full 40-second cooldown before you can use them both again.
This makes it inefficient to use one missile in any scenario. Even if you only want to clear one place, it’srecommended to use the second missile in the best second spotinstead of wasting it. This can be used to either clear another angle or destroy utilities of other agents.
Check Corners With Your Drone
When you hear about the fact that your drone can easily reveal all enemies around it, you mightend up going past a corner with your drone without checking it. This is usually a bad idea since your team enters right behind the drone, and they might get killed by an enemy hiding in one of these corners before you trigger your reveal.
When you’re using the Stealth Drone, it’s important to consistentlylook around and check every small cornerso that other team members can freely enter the site since they’ll have fewer angles to check.
Tejo Is Sentinel Nightmare
Killjoy and Cypher are two of the most frustrating agents to go against in Valorant since they can set up their utility on a site andplay far back while getting free kills and damage on the enemies. Generally, if you have one of these Sentinels in the enemy team, you’d scout out the sites and completely avoid wherever you see their utility.
