There are a few rare character archetypes inSmite 2; in general, there’s a wealth of diversity when it comes to how characters work mechanically, and the strengths and weaknesses that go along with that. Characters that do share similar functions do so in very different ways, even when there is overlap.

But few characters fill a role quite like Hecate does. She is an extremely unique character, capable of some incredibly strong defensive play. And while she might play differently than most other Gods, she isn’t lacking for power, as she’sone of the stronger characters in the game.

Hecate floats above a stone pedestal in Smite 2.

Smite 2 is currently in Early Access, and any of the information below could change as the game develops further.

How To Play Hecate

Hecate iscapable of both the Middle roleand the Support rolein Smite 2. Regardless of her role, she’s going to be functioning in a very similar way.

Passive Ability: Mythic Ritual

Hecate’s passive ability,Mythic Ritual, is much of the reason that she’s capable of as strong a defense as she is. Mythic Ritual allows Hecate to do two different things:

Ability: Triplicate Form

Triplicate Formfires a projectile that passes through enemies, dealing damage to every enemy it comes into contact with. This deals damage in two different ways:

How To Use Triplicate Form

Hecate’s Triplicate Form works as a way todisrupt and debuff enemies, both.

Interms of disruption, it has the most value in the Middle role. It’s not that it has no value as a Support, but this ability has extra value as a Support, aside only from the mesmerize effect.

But the ability to increase the magical damage that the enemy takes for the next six seconds can do a lot forimproving a friendly Carry’s damage, and make a humongous difference throughout the course of a match.

Ability: Spell Eater

Spell Eateris a fantastic ability for Hecate, creatinga huge, 20-meter radius areathatcharges up when opposing Gods use abilities inside of it. This can gain a max charge of 12.

The abilitycan be reactivatedto then call down the sigil that it created, dealing damage to enemies that increases the more charge that it’s gained.

In its default form, Spell Eater stays active until you reactivate the ability.

Aspect Of Ruin

Hecate’sGod Aspect, Aspect Of Ruin, changes how Spell Eater works. With this active, you can no longer refire Spell Eaterto deal damage. But,enemies that use abilities in that radiuswill have theirability efficacy reduced, andeach time they use an ability, Spell Eater willdamage them with a projectile.

In this form, Spell Eater stays active for about five seconds. It has a nine-second cooldown, meaning it could theoretically be active right around half of the time, provided you have the mana to keep recasting it.

How To Use Spell Eater

Spell Eater is amassive benefit to Hecate, whether you use her Aspect Of Ruin or use it in its default state.

The huge radius of Spell Eater makes it a difficult ability for enemies to avoid. In many instances, they won’t be able to, and will be forced to deal with the effects the ability inflicts on them.

Ability: Repel Magic

Repel Magicgives eitherHecateor anally a shieldthatabsorbs magical damageonly. It alsoinflicts damage to nearby enemies, increasesHecate’s movement speed, andgrants her Spell Eater ability three charges.

How To Use Repel Magic

Repel Magic isonly useful against magical damage, which makes it only helpful against certain enemies or attacks. It will havegreat value sometimes, andvery little other times.

Repel Magic can stack with a standard HP shield, and in that case, they combine to provide quite a bit of protection.

But while the shield aspect of the ability can occasionally be lackluster, its other effects are always helpful. Increasing movement speed is only ever beneficial, and giving Spell Eater three charges will increase its potency, when not using the Aspect Of Ruin God Aspect.

Ultimate Ability: Open The Gates

Open The Gatesis Hecate’s ultimate ability, opening up portals that connect to each other, andthat stunanddisplace enemy Gods. Hecate and her allies can alsoteleport via the portals, though the distance between them is not so great that the teleport is going to bring them a tremendous distance.

When To Use Open The Gates

Open The Gates cancreate a confusing situation for enemies to deal with, without even taking into account the displacement and stun that it creates. Enemies will need to take a moment to gather their bearings, and asmart Hecateandher teammates can use that time to their advantage.

On top of that, Open The Gates does do aconsiderable amount of damage, as well. That damage can be multi-target, as it damages anyone inside the ability’s radius. It’s gotconsiderable range, and is one of theeasiest-to-aim ultimate abilitiesthat has that kind of impressive range.

Hecate can place one end of her portal on the other side of a wall; so, while these portals can’t have a great distance between them, when well-placed, it can still create a lot of separation between her and her enemies.
